Sunshine, thanks for the terrible answer. Maybe you should go back to school and learn how to spell and maybe us punctuation. You're an idiot.

The Mets have sold more shirts than you can imagine. At least the dont run around the field in hot pants and never score.

I'm not bashing soccer you moron. I'm just asking an opinionated question on whether people give a damn about this guy playing or not. Get a life.

Also, maybe I will go to a Red Bulls game. I would have the choice of any seat in the house along with the 4 other people who show up to watch them.

Yes people care, what a stupid question...well maybe it's just you. I love how everyone is talking so much crap, but you have to remember the MLS has been around for 11 years. So enough people must care. It definitely will not be king in this country though because of people like all of you s*** talkers.

This is a big deal. He is a superstar and a high-profile name. That transaction was known about all over the world. Believe it or not, a lot of soccer fans do exist in this country.

P.S. Go blow Reyes you nuthugging Mets fan. Yeah, I can enjoy more than one sport. I don't have to bash on a sport because I don't like it. Go to a Red Bull NY game or a Columbus Crew game and talk crap...I would love to see you make it out alive.

I'm an American, and I say whatever. Most of the professional athletes who play in American leagues are grossly overpaid, so it doesn't surprise me that Beckham's getting that kind of money. I think he might not be worth the investment since he's been playing for so long and will probably retire after his five years are up, but oh well it's publicity for American pro soccer, a sport which basically nobody watches. I just watch the NHL, no other sport for me!

Yep...maybe it's just you sunshine. I would also add that you must have a very select and small circle of friends. Whether followers of soccer or not, only the very ignorant and the mountain hermit people living in the US of A, have not heard of Beckham's arrival in the country. I'm quite sure the millions of soccer fans in the States don't really give a damn whether you and your ilk care or not!

I live in America....and a huge Futbol fan....
The reason I don't care much about his arrival is due to the fact that I've already watched him for many years since his youthful days at United and I know the type of player he is...

I think the Media and MLS is taking Beckham's arrival as a huge marketing scheme to get more Americans to at least acknowledge the sport....being that Becks is the hot selling Icon of the sport all over the world.

Becks is a very humble person....and he came here to take on a new challenge.....He's won everything you can imagine in Club Futbol playing for the two biggest clubs in Europe, United and Real Madrid......He has a huge uphill battle and I hope for the sake of the sport in this country that he succeeds his goal.

Its going to take a generation or two for this sport to make it strong in this Country.....

Nice Avatar....(Loyal Mets fan here)

i personally think soccer is stupid, i respect the people who like soccer, and i think it is nice that David Beckham is coming here for those people who like soccer. but lets just face it. Soccer will never be a major sport in the U.S the soccer crazies can wish all they want, but it's just not gonna happen well at least not in this day and age.

RECKLESS!! was it really necessary to say all of that??! just because he dosen't like soccer or David Beckham didn't mean you had to start trash talking! why won't you go live in a country where they have riots after every frekin soccer game, for i could see you right there with them blowing someones head off becasue they trash talked about your favorite soccer player who dosen't even know you exsist oh and when i said i respected the people who like soccer YOU AREN'T ONE OF THEM

Of course people care in America. MLS already made millions of just using Beckham's name in marketing.

Football (soccer) is never going to be the king in the US. But I'm pretty sure it can get close to competing with other leagues in the US. Just wait and see.

I'm just hoping that Becks turns the Galaxy around. Much less soccer in America.

the media seems to care more than anyone, why are they trying to cram another sport down everyones throat when our major sports are already having problems with popularity and ratings. the only good thing about soccer are soccer moms and soccer wives for mls, but we can get those anywhere else

I care. I think its good that MLS is finally getting a high-profile player. It's about time we got on the same page with the rest of the world.

@ Andrew W.... it's not called football because it's played with your feet. It's called football because it's played while standing on your feet as opposed to being on a horse, like polo. Back in the day, any sport that was played standing was called football- association football (soccer), Irish football, rugby football- because you played it on your feet.
