I never bought the choreographed nonsense in the movies about the striking styles of kung fu, karate, tae kwon do etc. I knew they were developed as a way for unarmed people to fight opponents weighed down by armor. After MMA fights became popular, and these striking, high-kicking styles always lost, I figured people would wise up. Instead there's even more absurdly choreographed movies (like Kill Bill, Kung Fu Hustle, Jet Li movies), worsening the public fantasy about the usefulness of these styles.
A style that people actually win with in free fights ought to be promoted to dispel the myth. What should it be - what is the most effective free-fight style, that can also capture people's imagination the way karate did?

In "Shao-lin soccer," Stephen Chow mocks a skinny kid who shows him a praying mantis form and says "you're giving kung fu a bad name." In an earlier movie I read that he killed a master of a "lost" praying mantis style with a can of bug spray.
Is Praying Mantis considered less effective for combat by other kung fu practitioners?

They draft him number one and then expect him to lead them to the promise land. The only problem is they never built a team around him. Instead he gives everything he had to the organization and gets his brains beat in game after game after game. Now he basically gets told he's not worth anything to anyone and is released. Pretty cold to say the least. Question is, does Carr have anything left in the tank and if so does he have a future somewhere in the NFL?
