Why on earth do the pros need a third base coach telling them when to run?

It would make the game more fun if they actually had to look over their shoulder and make a decision. Over-coaching is boring and takes away from sports.

What was so offensive about what Steve Lyons said that got him fired?

I didn't see the broadcast, but from what I'm reading, I think Fox overreacted. Am I missing something? It seems to me that he was just kidding around with a friend and it had nothing to do with race.
