Now before any of you go bonkers ranting about the Bible and posting Bible quotes, I'm not talking about God. I'm referring to the man-made institution of religion.

If people want to be close to God (whether God exsists or not) why are they unable to do it on their own? Why must they access God through some holy dude wearing a funny hat? When I was a child, I talked to my imaginary friends by myself, not through my mother.

Is it just that not enough people think for themselves? It seems to me that if God created me then what would matter to him (or her) is that I be a good person. I don't see why he (or she) would be angry with me if I ate meat on Friday, worked during the sabbath, or ate during the daytime during Ramadan.

How can eating meat on Friday be punishable with eternal Hell anyway? How can any other of the above be considered sinful? Janet Jackson can sum it up in one word--CONTROL!

Religion keeps most people in check with fear and a set of moral guidelines. With fear and guidelines gone... what would become of those that are weak and rely on a figure in their lives? What would become of this world?

Your insight does mean a lot to me whether I agree with it or not, please post your response.

Happened to have seen at least two questions regarding "liberals, leftist, or plain democrats" allying with Muslims. Or if they were to ally or whatever. But this does not make any sense. Liberals are supposed to go against everything the Muslims stand for. For example liberals want equality for women, while everyone knows the story about women in most Muslim countries!!!

Muslims want people to worship only one God_with the terrorist threatening to behead all that don't_, while liberals supposedly are non-religious, and some are even accused of being atheists.

Muslim want to dictate people how to dress, and what to do in public,etc. Women have to be completely covered! While supposedly all of half-naked Hollywood supports liberals, or Democrats.

If any would be allying with Muslims_if ever there could be such a thing_, woudn't it make more sense if the Conservatives, or Republicans, were the ones to do so?

The Bible is not to be taken completely literally. Creationism or Intelligent Design is not a real science.

What is the proper thing to do?

Once just at the end of the 1990's, The Times of New Delhi put at the top of the front page of the Sunday paper, just about this time of year, a picure of a little white murthi of Ganesha, saying that He was the greatest God of the 20th Century !!!!!! I am SURE this is so!!!

Whenever I start to pray to him, I suddenly fall silent ...and I start to wonder if he likes laddoo or modaka cakes better ....and wonder why he is so charming, then I wonder if all the stories about why he is Gaja Vadana are 'true' ... I just can't keep my mind still .......what ever do you think is wrong? What in all of Hinduism could save me from this frolicsome attitude?

On Sunday, I posted a question for the atheists about how they kept their sense of humor, in the onslaught of christian questions, about non-belief!
Well, it seems that Yahoo in its questionable wisdom, has removed my question from the boards, for inappropriate content!
My question to you is, can you believe that the powers that be, are so two-faced, when they allow so many hate-filled, and plainly insulting questions, about my former church (LDS), and other churches as well, but turn around and delete my question to you, praising your patience, and sense of humor, regarding christians, and their inability to mind their own business!
What can be so inappropriate about telling people that you love them, because they cheer you up, and make you feel good, when you are down! I swear, I do not understand their ( Y/A) logic! Do you?
Answer quick, because they just might delete this one,too!

Is it possible for a chirstian to follow Buddhist teachings. As there are many buddhist values and doctrine many christians could do with...but then there is the whole "god is either none existent or irrelivent" beliefe...would that put many off?

And America voted for him, doesnt this make them a Christian extremist nation, shouldnt the moderate christians speak out against these extremist. Aint the bad press Islam gets, hypocritical and aint Christian extremist the ones destroying the world and trying to control nations that have nothing to do with them. How can Christians say "well its muslims killing people" dont the people killed by f16s, missiles, m16 guns by christians count as people? and aint bush acting according to the stories of the bible?

Why do humans have useless hair (e.g., on legs and arms)?

Heck, why do some humpback whales have leg bones found in their bodies?
