Please don't say that the New Testament says Jesus praises women because Mary got to clean Jesus' feet. (what an honour!)

1 Timothy 2:11:
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
Deuteronomy 22:20-21:
If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl's virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you.
Genesis 3:16:
To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."
Matthew 18:25 :
Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

Do you think the relationships between gods, leaders, and law is essentially the same in these two cultures, or essentially different? Use both lectures and readings to back up your assertion.

That seems like a contradiction to me. After all, when we come to Christ doesn't He forgive us and cleanse us of all our sins?

Lets say Adam and Eve were real people. They did not eat from the tree of knowlege and they stay in the garden of eden. What would our future be like?

hello fellow atheists!

I'm just wondering if you ever believed in God. If you did, when did you stop believing? What made you stop believing?

I stopped believing when I went to a poor country and saw all the happy hungry unneducated people. I knew then that it was not possible for a God to exist. And even if he did, I would choose not to worship him. I am an ex Catholic, and frankly I wonder if Christians really are delusional.

I will continue to give money to send people in poor countries to secondary education. Education really is the answer not praying. The best thing about it is when they finish and get jobs, they have to give someone else the money to go. It's a web, so everyone can gets the chance to go. Some people and I raised enough money for one student to go. I would like to think I helped make a positive difference in their life.

It's better then thinking I'm doing something for these people by praying for them.

How can a pool of mud or whatever create a life form that evolves into the complex biological makeup of the human body over thousands of years, because the make up of the body is to complex to just come out of chaos.

If Adam and Eve were created and populated the entire human race then why aren't we all disfiqured and retarded from all the inbreeding. Isn't having sex with your mom, brother, cousin against the bible. Is this why so many more southerners believe in this literal form of the bible- because they think inbreeding is OK??

First of all, within the context of the question, i am agnostic

I mean, from an totally secularist, evolutionary point of view it is survival of the fittest and just that. What is the purpose of not lying, not stealing, not murdering if there is no higher power or higher purpose that one is trying to achieve. If our goal and ulitmate purpose in life is (speaking from a evolutionary perspective) to survive and reproduce, wouldnt such morals be obsolete and too utopian? If you really think about it, all morals are all in some way or another derived from religion (not implying that atheists dont have morals, dont get me wrong).

I would appreciate any imput, as long as it is thought out and not sarcastic or offensive.

Atheists actually believe that amino acids assembled themselves into proteins and then those proteins assembled themselves into reproducing living cells that evolved into fish and later evolved into humans. And all this due to a random explosion in space caused by nothing. That’s really identical to believing in perpetual motion and magic. Do they honestly believe this? Or is it mostly just blind faith that "scientists" will figure it out someday and it just doesn't make sense yet?

Why do people interpret the bible literally, when it has so much more meaning if you understand the symbolism and metaphors repeated through out the text.

Like the story of Adam and ever is actually about the loss of innocents and the fall from it.
