Sorry but none of us can possibly understand the mind of God.

Consider the fact that snakes can't talk. The serpent in the garden talked to Eve...this suggests that it wasn't an animal at all, at least not anything we can visualize.

Perhaps the serpent WAS the devil...the "angel" that decided he wanted to rule his own kingdom and knew that God would throw him AND the two people out of the garden if he could persuade them to disobey the rule. If the passages are actually describing a snake as we know it today, perhaps that's because God also had to cast out the animal that was used/created for the deception and the "no-legs" thing was similar to the "painful childbirth" thing...necessary for that animal to survive on the earth.

Snakes have generally gotten a bad rap throughout the history of mankind. Generally speaking they just try to mind their own business and stay out from underfoot, avoiding trouble.

I suspect the Old Testament has done them a disservice, but people tend to dislike them anyway because of the way snakes have of not being blessed with enough intelligence to strike with greater cunning.

God didn't actually curse snakes. Thats just how they were made, all crawly on their bellies and stuff. Genesis was a book written by rabbis much much later than the creation of the freaking world/universe. They weren't there in person to take notes.

This story is symbolic, not literal. There is nothing wrong with snakes. There is also not a Satan, because all of God's creations are good. Angels are not given free will, only humans. Therefore, it was IMPOSSIBLE for Lucifer to rebel against God. That disproves the fallen angel thing.
