For instance, my fiance's mother is always explaining how the "devil" causes bad things to happen and talks about God's will and stuff; she constantly relates these types of things to regular topics such as things going on in our family, or in the news today. I usually just nod and smile. But I'm starting to get tired of it. I don't believe that there is "the devil" is up there rubbing his hands together with a scheming look on his face thinking up ways to cause us grief. So how can I react when she makes such comments, without offending her? Its as if she assumes I will agree with her. So if I object, I have a feeling she will be rather surprised.

Just wondering if there was a way to find out how much a church makes a year and what the "Staff" of these churches get paid? I know that most churches are Tax Exempt but do they still have to report it and if so to whom?
Thank you

It seems to me that God is considered responsible for positive things, but he is not considered responsible for negative things.

If your home was on fire, you might pray. But you'd do more than pray--you'd call 911, if you could. And who would come? Firefighters. NOT God, though I'm sure you'll say he's there in spirit.

When the firefighters arrive, and save your life, you will likely thank them. However, you'll also likely thank God for the "miracle," and claim him the person to be thanked when telling your story.

But what if the firefighters didn't arrive? If they decided not to come, and you were to die, I GUARANTEE your family members would blame THEM, and NOT God.

So, let me get this straight: when people do something good, it's all thanks to God. But when they do something bad, it's all their fault. How is that fair?

So really, *WE* can't do anything good, by our own account. However, we can do bad things. Isn't that just setting us up for failure?

Is 'love' itself enough to become a religion? Won't it be a greet thing !

At a Court House fairly close to where I live, the Ten Commandments are displayed. People complained about it, and there was a law suit. From what i've read, the following article is the final word about it.

http://www.pluralism.org/news/article.php?id=4430

Doesn't having a plaque that quotes from the Bible almost make it seem as if the Court will be ruling in favour of those who follow EACH (including the first 4) commandments?

What are your thoughts? Should religious displays such as this one continue to be displayed on the exterior of a Court House? Doesn't this violate the First Amendment?

In your opinion? It can be biblical too :) Christian singles are welcome too if they just have something they may want to add! :)

I don't believe strictly that there is or is not a god, I just really don't care because I believe that I have control over my life. I realize that this has agnostic and deist tendencies, but it's different. When asked, I either say "other" or "atheist" because each seems to be equally offensive to my Christian surroundings. I'm willing to believe in creation, simply because the world would have to be one hell of a coincidence, but evolution also makes sense, so I guess it's not that "God" made humans but made a world from which we evolved. Or something.

Last one for the day - I have to make it good...

Logic by Scatterbrain

Stop, look, listen, learn; your lessons have begun.
O.K. school's in session-lesson #1,
Inductive, deductive reasoning and thought.
It's called logic, are you ready to be taught?
It won't take long, you can't go wrong.
Use it and you're always right,
And don't forget that right is might
Shall we move along?
If a is b, and b is c, then a is c. See?
It's really easy, here we go,
For example, here's some samples; we'll start slow:
>From war comes peace-Peace is good.
Therefore war is good.
Let's try another;
Johnny blew his head off-Johnny listened to metal.
Therefore metal killed Johnny.
That's logical, it's settled.
Take it from me, now here's the key;
Shape the truth to fit your ends,
Take the facts then twist and bend to your morality.
Twist it-logic; You can justify anything you want.
Twist it-logic; You can justify anything at all.
Stop, look, listen, learn; isn't logic fun?

Why do some people give a thumbs down for answers that are based on historical and/or liturgical facts rather than just what has been taught or what is popular in R & S?

I've been having an interesting debate through e-mail with a fellow Y!Answers user (who I will leave anonymous out of respect for him) about what qualifies as a "Christian" these days.

I say Catholics, Protestants, Methodists, Lutherans, Mormons, JW's, etc are all under the Christianity heading, while he says that there is only one true sect of Christianity and the others aren't even considered Christians.

Who do you think has the correct argument here?

Jesus said it at the Sermon on the Mount. It seems like a significant verse to me. What did he do to "light up" those ordinary people? Did he teach them how to worship in spirit? Did he already give them the Gift of God? My reference: middle chapters at http://gospelenigma.com

I meant the extensive human bomb children used by Islamic extremist in Kashmir against Indian Army troop. Even the Kashmir rebels did used children as human shield against Indian troops - Islam and its teaching is used extensively to propagate parents of the children or anyone to commit such acts.

Children are innocent and sacrificing them for the well being of the community or any organization is simply crude evil.

Uncivilized and barbaric men in ancient times did scarified children once a while for the betterment of their community but civilized, educated, religious and intellectual society of the 21st century who blows up so many children to protest or fight against any claim or war is too much to conceive with the proper emotions..

Say theres a man who has killed tons of people,. and he is due to be executed, or he spent his life in prison and is about to die, just before he dies (in either situation) he asks God for forgiveness for the people he killed and the lives he destroyed. Does that mean he goes to Heaven?
