if not, then you're straight. gay people don't have any desire to be intimate with people of the opposite sex.

it's not something you can choose. it's like some people like very large women and some are repulsed by them. some people like very thin people while others are repulsed by them.

so do you have desire to be intimate with the same gender? and how do you fight it? or do you understand the point i'm trying to make?

Do you fear death? Say somehow you knew you were going to die in 1 year. If there was a way for you to extend the date of your death from 1 year to say....8 years from now, would you take it?

If marriage is a religious institution, than I believe a church should have the option to marry and not marry, who they choose.

However, if two consenting adults want to enter into a partnership recognized by the government...call it union, or marriage, whatever...in order to have the same rights and priviledges as heterosexual married couples, why does this concern you? Homosexual couples pay equal, if not more, in taxes than heterosexual couples, so shouldn't they be granted the same right to marry/partnership with the person they love?

What would be wrong with having a civil marriage recognized by the government for all...and a religious marriage which is left up to the church to decide?

Wouldn't this be the humane compromise?

Your thoughts?

since being gay is a choice, could some of you Xtian men share with us your stories of your daily struggles to choose to be straight rather than gay?
I think it would really be helpful if people could read how you overcome your gay lust and choose a straight life instead.
Are some days harder than others?
Do you ever fail and end up choosing gay for a week or two?

Why do so many people insist on a literal approach to scripture? Do you know that as far back as the Middle Ages people understood that a Biblical passage could have several meanings? (the Jewish people have always had a more interpretive understanding of scripture)Why does it seem people in our age want to concretize everything? And Atheists, I'm not letting you off the hook either! You like to take the literal interpretation of creation, Noah's ark, etc...and then dismiss it as false. Do people understand there are many ways to study and read the Bible??? I need a drink!

"My name is Elder Smith. I'd like to talk to you about special underwear and secret handshakes that you need to do to have eternal life in the very best heaven. I'd also like to tell you about how we can baptize and marry your dead Aunt Sally."

Wouldn't it show more honesty and integrity to tell people what you believe right off instead of slowly introducing the weird doctrines AFTER you have gotten people to join? If your doctrines are true and beneficial, what do you have to lose by not stating them up front?

Can you say, Saddam Hussain died for the sins of Americans. Since the USA was the one who made him the way he was. They supported him and armed him with all WMD. Made him a hero in war with Iran and he was still hero when he committed attrocities against his own people. But later captured and hanged him when he turned against. So was his sins, his alone or USA have a share before God Almighty?

I realize this may strike a nerve among Christians users on this site but this is merely an observation/opinion of mine.

To me, it seems that religions such as Paganism, Buddhism, and even Judaism seem much more spiritually oriented than Christianity. Christianity seems to focus more on spreading the word/converting others, fear of damnation, and doctrine/dogma.

Before you state that I don't understand what Christianity is "about", I do. I was raised Christian. I understand what it is supposed to be about however it seems indoctrine takes precedence above all else.

This past Sunday the Anglican Church Of Canada (Episcopalian) decided at its general synod not to bless same sex unions. This has been an issue with the Church for years now. The motion to allow the blessing of same sex unions was very narrowly defeated.

The whole issue has caused great divisions within the Church, with many feeling very strongly on both sides. There is also a sizeable amount of people who do not feel extremely passionate one way or the other, but do not want to see people leaving the Church over the matter.

Whether you are an Anglican/Episcopalian or not, I would be interested to know what you think of this matter.

The issue is far from over and will likely be looked at again at future Synods.

What do you think?

Pascal's Wager is basically, "If you believe and are wrong, nothing all that terrible happens to you, but if you don't believe and are wrong, you're going to suffer eternally.

Can't you really use that type of thinking for almost anything? I could sit here and tell you that I am God, and that if you don't follow my rules, you're in serious trouble, but if you do, you're granted peaceful bliss for an eternity. Sound like a good wager to you? Of course not. Pascal assumes that his religion, Christianity, is the only choice other than disbelief. What about all of the other religions?

And if you used Pascal's Wager to "believe" would it really be a sincere belief, or would you just be artificially believing, JUST IN CASE? It seems to me that if Christianity is true, that you wouldn't really be saved using this mindset.

Those are my thoughts. What are yours?

Rebellion and disobedience is the answer!

So whose fault is it?

God told all these people about the consequences if they disobeyed his commandments

So why do you call God murderer?

He did not kill these people because of pleasure or something; these people get the retribution for their sins!

You need to understand why he did it! Again rebellion and disobedience!

It means that many of them did not care!

God is a God of Justice!

AND PLEASE STOP MISINTERPRETING THE SCRIPTURES

The more I think about it, the more I think that if Christians had never invented the concept of Hell (the bad place with fire and screaming) then Christianity would have faded away by the middle of the nineteenth century. What am I basing this on? Well, for starters, whenever people try to convert me back to the faith (yes, I was a Christian in my younger days), the most convincing argument they can come up with is the threat of eternal retribution for my agnosticism. I will ask them if there is any other reason, and they just shrug and tell me to make my choice. That leads me to believe that a lot of people just follow it because they are afraid of being punished with a bad afterlife, and not because they really want to be a part of it.

I realize that this Q is going to be an offensive one to some. However, I have learned that it's almost impossible to question a religious topic without ruffling someone's feathers. So I guess I just need to accept the inevitable.
