studying Bhudism? It seems reasonable to me. I am not in the market for a new religion I'm just curious because I over heard some people talking about it.

If you put aside the particulars ,doesn't this theory help to explain simularities in the messages both religions are trying to get across?

It has been suggested in the past by Nicholas Notovitch, a Russian explorer, who was shown an ancient manuscript while visiting a monastery in Tibet, telling of Jesus' stay in India and Tibet during the "lost years".

But the theory was completely wrong.

They stated that he travelled to Tibet, and learned Buddhism, however, Buddhism had not reached that far, until after Jesus' existence.

The people who wrote those statements, thought Buddhism had existed in Tibet for the same amount of time that Buddhism itself had existed, and they were in error.

I will get you the links.

After he was born, they had to leave the area because Herod was slaughtering the young to kill the prophesy of Jesus as foretold by the prophets. So, a lot of his youth was spent in Egypt and in travel. As for studying Buddhism. I highly doubt that He would study a religion which is not supported by God. Thanks for the question, and have a great day!

It cannot be ruled out entirely, but there is no real reason to think that this was what he did. The roots of his teachings seem to be firmly in apocalyptic Judaism as known from other sources in that time period.

The main reason nothing is said about Jesus' youth is the fact that young people were ignored in that day and age. Once someone became famous, then you had to go back and invent a fantastic childhood for them, to match their adult prominence. From a historian's perspective, the lack of detail about these years is typical of biographical sources from this time in history and this part of the world.

It seems reasonable to say that it is "possible." But, then, so many things are possible. When one gets right down to it, what we know of Jesus is what is said about him in the New Testament; and the New Testament says nothing more about those years of his life except that he was left behind in the Temple when he was about twelve. There simply is nothing else known. Lots of things might be presumed, but there is nothing definite because nothing else has been written.

Jesus never studied buddhism. In the ancient days, historians only wrote down history that was considered important or contained a lesson worth learning. Therefore, Jesus' birth and three year ministry was recorded.

One thing we cannot and should not do is to try to explain a mystery with another mystery, it is most likely that Jesus had nothing to say in His young years and spent them helping His Parents and growing in wisdom and stature, waiting for the appointed time to begin His mission on earth.
By the way, Jesus did know that He was the Messiah even at this early time in His life.

I think it is because the ones who wrote about Mithra didn't mention Mithra's early years. The writers of the gospels didn't have anything else to copy.
