Recently my little brother of 13 went on a mission trip to Tennessee. Right now my family recently filed bankruptcy and we had to move and we have virtually no money. The trip for him cost $400.00 which was about the last amount we had. So my brother comes home from the trip and goes that was so worth it. And I go yeah you used the last bit of our money. And then he goes, "IT DOESN'T MATTER!!! YOU CAN'T PUT A PRICE ON GOD'S WORK!!!"

So my question is it common for churches to brainwash kids like this and give up everything their family has to the church?
BTW if you haven't guessed I'm not religious.

"Where the Bible speaks we speak, where the Bible is silent we are silent" : is it possible to do? How like Catholics and how different? How like Southern Baptists a how different? How like each other as Campbellites? What are the differences between the Church of Christ, the Boston Church of Christ, the Christ-ian Church, the more liberal Disciples of Christ.

Why doesn't he CREATE a youtube video and quit hiding from the world?

If God just proved that he was actual there, it should end war, stop hatred and really really freak people out.

Don't just answer "you obviously know nothing about faith". Put some logic and reason into your answer, please, thank you.

That way you would never have existed. It would be a great thing to do on your death bed; assuming time travel were possible.

The link is the question that prompted me to ask this. I'm not trying to be insulting, I'm merely curious.

During the time of Blacklight painting, I painted a poster with an intermeshing of 3 complete alphabets. I put it in the entrance alcove with a black light over it and a small label at its bottom. The Label stated, "This Poster contains every obscene and curse word ever created."

I had invited 8 couples over to play Bridge. Each couple saw the poster on entering. The all had reactions. Do you think you can figure out who did and said what?

I mean, I ask obviously metaphorical questions (i.e. that the harmony from "God Only Knows" is 'heaven-sent') and I get literal answers. It's nutty! I amt reported all the time for asking things like "Is God ignopotent" (a fire-maker) and "Is polygamy in the Bible" and these questions, that completely follow guidelines, get deleted. Sometimes those Christians (love you Ent Wife, and Debra M., Uncle Wayne, etc.) who don't know me better say they don't appreciate silly or funny questions from non-Christians. What else am I supposed to do, though, when I'm about to lose my account because so many people refuse to be realistic in their answers AND in their reports. That, or I am accused of "ranting" for writing the truth. If someone cannot stand the truth or a sense of humor, I'm sure there's a death & destruction category. Why answer questions that are obviously well-meaning and metaphorical as literal questions?

Thank you! :-D

Does that mean that they are under the "old law" and abide by what the old testament says? Do they not believe in the New Testament because of Jesus? I really am confused about this issue.

As far as I'm aware (feel free to point out otherwise), the bible does not say that there are aliens or extra-terrestrial life in outer space.

I'm fairly confident it would be a huge point of embarassment to theists if this were the case.

I know this is a very large axiom to build upon, but what would it mean to religion if aliens were discovered tomorrow?

What do you think the international religious response would be?

Lots of people on this site don't know all the facts that you know about science. That doesn't give you a reason to belittle others. It doesn't mean that they're stupid either. People have other kinds of intelligence besides scientific knowledge. Give us "unscientific people" a break, would ya?

If Adam and Eve were the first two people created, then did they populate the whole earth? And if Adam and Eve were the first people created, then how did different colored people get here? If i'm correct, in the bible dont some of the passages have god talking to some one commanding them what to do? If so then how did god die? & doesnt god have a wife? And isnt her name Mary? & wasnt Jesus their son? & if this is true then wouldnt that mean that there were people before Adam and Eve?
But how did God get here in the first place? Was god ever a human, or is he just a spirit?
When the Ten Plagues happend, how was it possible that the river turned into blood? How was it possible that any of those ten plagues really happened? What is our proof that they really happened?
& the whole Noah's arc thing, why would god flood everything and destory it? What proof is there that Noah's arc really happened?
& In church they always say Jesus rose from the dead? How is that possible?

Quite clearly, I am aware that you get irritating, aggressive nobodys in all walks of life. I'm NOT suggesting that christians are the only group that do it.

But in this instance, where the chat is mainly composed of atheists and christians (not entirely, but mainly), it is only the Christians who claim to live their lives in a Christ-like manner.

Atheists can still be ******* too, and in equal numbers, but atheists don't claim to be Christ-like in their behaviour, and then go on the war-path with their furious replies to some people's questions.

A lot of people over-looked this and went straight on the defensive for their religion.

To all those that did provide a good answers before however, thanks!

one day ( sunset from sunrise as in Genesis )

or

Million of year.

or

Something else.

I'd read one claim that TRUE CHRISTIANS believe in 24hr 7 days of creation.

Now I am confused.

on the concept of the missing link...

The concept that each species is a link in a great chain of life forms was largely developed in the typological age of biology, when species “fixity” (the idea that species were unchanging) was the dominant paradigm.

But while the links of a chain are discrete, unchanging, and easily defined, groups of life forms are not. Since species are not fixed (they change through time), it can be difficult to be sure where one species ends and another begins. For these reasons, many modern biologists prefer a continuum metaphor, in which shades of one life form grade into another. Life is not arranged as links, but as shades. The metaphorical chain is far less substantial than it sounds.

Thus the chain metaphor is wrong. It doesn’t accurately represent biology as we know it today, but as it was understood over four centuries ago.
