I just read this article suggesting most Americans are extremely undereducated about religion:

http://usatoday.com/news/religion/2007-03-07-teaching-religion-cover_N.htm

Do you agree that Americans are religiously undereducated, that's it's dangerous, and that perhaps something should be done in the public education system to rectify this (like requiring a comparative religion course)?

Or do you think that the arguments presented in the article are simply a ploy to further push religious agenda in schools and force children into Christian doctrine?

Please don't make assumptions about what I think from what I've posted. I know what I think - I just want to know what you guys think.

I was watching this A&E special about Satan and apparently The Church of Satan doesn't really believe in the Devil. They only believe in the concept of Satan's defiance of God. Are there any Satanist in here and is that an accurate description of your beliefs?

Do you accept other ideas or are you sure that your belief (be it religious or not) is the correct one?
It just seems I encounter a lot of closed-mined people these days, wether they are sure their religeon is the correct one or are sure there is no way a god exists.
I personally think I'm pretty open minded about the whole thing. I don't belive in God, however, I accept there's a possibility they he exists/existed.
Be honest, I won't judge you for it.

I think it is fair to say that children are too young to know where they stand on a lot of important issues.

They don't know where they stand politically for example, and no school is allowed to say to children "Democrat is right, Republic is wrong" for example, because it is unfair and teaching them something which many other people disagree with.

They have to be educated about both sides of the arguement, and allowed to make up their own mind. This is the reason why the voting age is 18, not 8.

In which case, why are children allowed to be brought up in religious schools? Schools actively teaching children which religion is right, and enforcing this over the many years they study there.

Surely if they don't know where they stand on the economy, politically, socially, how are they going to know where they stand on probably the biggest issue of them all? Their very nature and origin of their creation and the cosmos?

Each Religion has helped mankind!!!?

Paganism increased in man the light of beauty, the largeness and height of his life, his aim at many sided perfection

Christianity gave him some vision of divine love and charity

Buddhism has shown him a noble way to be wiser, gentler, purer,

Judaism and Islam showed how to be religiously faithful in action and zealously devoted to God

Hinduism has opened to him the largest and profoundest spiritual possiblilities.

And Finally athesists are ...not God disguised laughing at himself and mocking at himself ?

(As written by Sri Aurobindo-the great hindu philosopher)

What do you think?

He feels for us in the only way he knows how.

It's like when you're young and the girl who has a crush on you punches you in the arm.

I think we should thank him.

Gospel of John, Chapter 13, verse 34 - "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another"
To love as Jesus displayed love requires Christians to be people of mercy and grace towards everyone; regardless of their faith, or lack of faith. True Christianity is serious about caring for others more than themselves. If more of us who claim Christ would just obey His commandment; this would be a better place; for loving one another, putting their lives ahead of our own would be a place where "hatred" would be virtually non existent.

I mean, he's just so melodramatic! He's such a curly black mustache, tie the girl to the train tracks, cackle gleefully, evil plotting villain! Such a caricature.

And hey, what better way to bring people into the "love" of God than to say "well, if you DON'T come to God, there's a big awful meanie waiting to claim your allegiance, and he'll get it whether you consent or not... and you should really be scared, because he's one nasty fellow, he is... he'll hurt you real bad, REAL bad... so come to God!"

Now God looks so much better! Of COURSE you'll wanna "go with God" after hearing about that Satan guy. After all, if you're not with God, you're against God ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You're_either_with_us,_or_against_us )... and you don't want to be AGAINST God... do you?

Revelation 19:6
[ The Marriage Supper of the Lamb ] Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our Godthe Almighty reigns.

Revelation 19:9
And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb." And he said to me, "These are the true words of God."
