All I know is that if you get scratch by a cat...there is a chance you can get it. My mom got it once when she was a little girl and I guess she almost died...of course that was like 50 years ago...good luck figuring out what it really is though.

Cat Scratch Fever, otherwise known as Cat Scratch Disease, is a bacterial infection caused by Bartonella henselae.
Generally, after a scratch or bite from a cat (or sometimes even a dog), some pimples will form around the wound as it heals. These can last up to one month. In addition, lymph nodes may become swollen and tender and other symptoms may develop. These include headache, fever, fatigue and decreased appetite.

Cat scratch disease is, in most cases, caused by Bartonella henselae.
This syndrome may occur when patients rub their eyes after contact with a cat.Cases of cat scratch disease have also been reported after exposure to squirrels, dogs, goats, crab claws and barbed wire. Some of these cases could be due to other spe-cies of Bartonella.
The incubation period in humans is usually 3 to 10 days, but may be as long as 20 days.

Cat scratch fever is a legitimate disease and your child can catch it from your cat or kitten from a scratch or a bite. Cat Scratch fever is carried in your cat or kittens saliva. The cat can transmit this disease through a scratch if it has been licking or cleaning his paws. Rarely, a dog may even carry this bacteria.
