Christianity gave him some vision of divine love and charity

Buddhism has shown him a noble way to be wiser, gentler,purer,

Judaism and Islam showed how to be religiously faithful in action and zealously devoted to God

Sri Aurobindo was very sharp and perceptive, and I think he hit the nail on the head, so to speak.

Depends how you define "help"... and indeed whether you believe in free will or not... among other things.

The human brain is not complex enough to determine precisely how different the world might have been without the particular interference of various different religions.

What is fairly certain however is that religion of some sort would have arisen at some point in human history anyway. It is the logical product of a child's imagination ploughing through unimpeded into the body of a domineering alpha male.
The current decline of religion is likewise a result of human progression in much the same way: the global result of various cultures being told that they are wrong enough times that they actually consider it and try to come to concensus.

Of course the logical conclusion is that all religious beliefs will eventually be shown to be wrong... and consequentially that no beliefs are ultimately correct... and therefore that we are all completely ignorant. The only thing that really counts is the acceptance of that ignorance... and thus far it seems the asians are closest.

... So yeah... the Asian religions are kinda helpful... though mostly the ones that are less religion and more "way-of-life".

No, religion isn't "all bad." Religion has been the driving force behind practically every human civilization. And, even from the point of view of modern, secular society, there is much in religion that is or may be of general value to humanity.

The danger with any religion is in assuming that its rules are absolute - which is, of course, what every religion insists upon. But one man's meat is another man's poison. All religions may be "ways to the center," but there is no one way proper to all. "No man cometh unto the Father but by me" is mere dogmatic bigotry. Until this is clearly understood, we will always have to take the dark side of religion - oppression, tyranny, war, etc - with the good.

~~~Aum ,,, Perfectly reasonable,,, if looking through the Rose Colored Glasses of a Romanticist. History illustrates full well the Dark Side of ALL Religions and the reckless abandon of Hedonistic, Existentialist Atheists. Indeed, it is a beautiful sentiment,,,but only a Half Truth,,,thus the Shining Side of this Coin belies The Darkness of it's other side,,,(,,,if you want to wax poetic about it,,,) In other words,,,,B.S.,,,,a Half Truth is still a Lie,,,of Omission. ~ Namaste` ~
Yes--religion has had some positive attributes--the main one being that they teach us that we are not separate --as that knowledge would normally never occur to us--unfortunately there are many who either cannot or refuse to hear that message--& use religion to separate & divide themselves from their fellow man and transform religion into an elitist form of tribalism.
What about religions such as:
- Davidism (David Koresh and his followers)?
- Heaven's Gate?
- The one in Tokyo where they gassed everyone (can't remember the name)
Also, at what cost has religion helped?
- Chrisianity has helped many, but is also responsible for so much misery, corruption, pain and death over the years
- Islam has helped many, but is also responsible for so much oppresion, torture, and death.
So religion is there to help people? Why do we need God at all then? Religion is a man-made attempt to reach God. If it doesn't get you there, then what's the point?
Cute, but not totally accurate, and definitely not in chronological order.
It may be true. But is it good or bad on the whole. That is the question.
