In Matthew 5:17-18, Jesus says

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."

I read on a website that this means Jesus didn't intend to change the oldest Jewish laws, not even the smallest letter or single stroke of a pen.

Does this mean that Christianity and Judaism have the same laws and moral principles?

Did you try to influence their religious development? What do they believe?

I have been fairly careful not to offer unsolicited opinions to my 10-year-old. He went through a short-lived period of saying he was first Buddhist, then Hindu, then Christian (we live in Thailand). Now, he has said in his own words that he's agnostic. I for one think my laisse faire approach was the right one. He's a smart kid and seems to be figuring it out for himself.

Now, before you begin to haze me, I am serious. I am not Christian, but when my brother who was previously agnostic found Jesus, I was truly happy for him. He and his wife are different, and I have talked to him about the problems this is likely to cause in his marriage and told him that he should really read and know his bible. Talk to his church, and understand what he is committing to. If this is his way I will support him. I think it is important to find God and faith.

Then this morning, I read his blog and it proclaims his new faith in a poem.

Most of the poem being I have found love, I have found God. But then there was also this line...

So when you ask me why am I crazy.

All I can think is that your way too lazy.

To find that piece that is missing inside.

But if you want I will be your guide.

To the road that is desolate from within.

Am I wrong to be worried his first words are bigotted? Talking down like many zealots, calling people names (ie lazy)? Do I do anything?

What do you know about the Hindu caste system? What do you think about it? Do you think it should be abolished, altered, or left alone?

For instance one says "I haven't been keeping up with the news".
or "religion causes violence". But you cannot stop large scale movements/problems by spending time on an internet forum.
For instance if the U.S. government is corrupted by Christianity then spending time here ain't going to work.

So are some of you just venting your frustrations here?
Do believe that spending time here you can convert Christians or those sitting on the fence to atheism?
What is your intention?

I don't mean any disrespect to Atheists. I'm just very curious.

Those who say that are right: their "god" would never create hell, because he couldn’t. He doesn’t exist. He is a figment of their imagination, a god they have created to suit themselves. It’s called "idolatry," and it’s the oldest sin in the Book. Idolaters will not inherit the kingdom of God. The one true God, however, could and did create hell for those who reject His mercy. They will reap His just wrath. (For the reasonableness of hell, see Psalm 55:15 footnote.)

You are on a small planet, there are innumerabel planets around you, and as you go out of universe, you will see many galaxies like milkyway, and as you go further you will see thousands of galaxies and stars moving away with tremendous speed. Futher into space millions of light years, you will find more and more. Doesnt it thrill you and scare you, raise many doubts what you have been believing all the time.?

You say he started the universe with light already in transit. If so, he arranged that light so that it appeared to show us many very distant first generation stars that do not produce the heavy metals required for life.

This has led our astronomers to conclude that humans could not have exist until billions of years after those stars spawned second-generation and third-generation offspring.

Obviously we have been duped. Why?

Honest question for Christians say the bible is meant to be completely literal: What do you think of these commandments from Jesus?

Matthew:5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30.And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

Luke 18:22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Do you think we should literally gouge out our eyes if we see a sexy person with them? Should we really sell everything we have? If so, why do none of the literalists I've ever met or heard of do these things? Shouldn't we have a bunch of Christians with empty eye cavaties wandering the streets homeless and possesionless?

I'm a Lutheran but to be honest I haven't been to church in years & believe it or not alot of the kids in my daughters school look down on her for it. Now my answer to her is to tell them to go f off but that would only get her suspended. Have your kids dealt with that & if so how did you tell them to handle it? Please don't go off on there being a fake God because I do believe I just think that alot of the churches are corrupt & only want your money. Thanks

I did. One time I was trying to get out of my street and my car became stuck in the snow that the snowplow had left mounded at the end of the street. I was just getting more and more stuck. Out of nowhere, a man showed up and knocked on my window, scaring me. He was all bundled up, so I couldn't see anything but his eyes. He motioned that he was going to push my car out and not to gun the engine, just ease down on the accelerator. I followed his instructions, and he pushed me out easily. I opened my door and got out to thank him. He was gone. And I was in an open area where the houses were far apart, so he hadn't had time to run inside anywhere. It was only a few seconds anyway from the time he pushed my car free and I got out of the car. I walked over to where the car had been stuck, there were no footprints anywhere, just mine from the car to where I had been stuck. I said "thank you" aloud, and heard a voice, plain as day, say, You are welcome."

This question is part of a logic chain i'm following based on some stock philosophy answers.

Why did God make evil? Because you can not have good without evil. Why did God not make it so that you -could- have good without evil? To allow free will. Why did God not make it so that evil didn't exist and yet free will still did?

If He is omnipotent and omniscient, this should be a trivial feat for Him. Just because we can not conceive of how such a universe could exist, that is no limit to Him.

The jews are waiting for a messiah of David's seed. What if that seed mixed with the lost tribe? Could it be possible to have a true messiah -even one that is a decendant of David, that shows up through the lost tribe? This person could actually be a decendant, but there would be now way to prove it.

By the way, I feel that the many people who are returning to Kabbalah and the Jewish faith right now are the lost tribe -almost exactly discribed by scriptue. Your thoughts?
