When a Christian talks about terrorism done in the name of Islam they like to bring up the Christian Crusades.

Do Muslims really know what brought about the Crusades?

Here is a little History lesson;
Islamic conquests started in 632 BC after the death of Muhammad.

In 1095 BC Orthodox Christians (non-Catholics) requested help from the Catholic Church which, was bigger, because they didn't want to be conquered by Muslims.

So, again, Muslims started a war because people they wanted to conquer wanted no part of them. They are still screaming to this day because people fought/fight back at Muslim aggression.

Modern day attempt of Muslim conquest -- The Sudan and those people are fighting back. When will some Muslims learn that people are going to defend themselves. When will some Muslims learn that if you hit me, I'm going to hit you back even harder.

It is the only truth that has set me truly free:

The universe is incredible. It is so funny. So incredibly hilarious and intricate. The world we live on is so small, so small compared to everything. This tiny little existence spinning and orbiting. And the problems of humans, so small. We are only scared of death because otherwise our race wouldn't exist at all, we would've died out. But death doesn't scare me anymore. It's just the circle of life. I'll always exist I just won't exist in the same way. And there'll never be anyone, ever, who is the same as me. Or you.

Do you believe this? Do you want to believe this?

So we all realize that a day for God could easily be millenia, as there was no sun or earth to completely rotate every 24 hours dictating the length of a day during Creation. So, God's 7th day could be quite long.

Beyond that, perhaps God rested and has just let us keep on with our little world as he continues to rest. Perhaps that is why he doesn't seem to be active. He just wanted to make sure we all use the 7th day in our reckoning to rest, too. So, it's still the 7th day for God.

What do you think?

I'm in a real pickle. I want to enroll my son in preschool. The preschool affiliated with the city shcools where I live don't seem to be real productive. I've heard rave reviews about the preschool at the Christian Academy where I live, parents I've spoken to have been very impressed with their childrens' progress and education. I want the best education for my child, so I am considering enrolling him here. The problem is that being agnostic, I want to raise him to be a free thinker and choose his own beliefs. How do I deal with questions from him about praying at school and the bible and god when I don't believe? I don't want him to feel that he has to believe these things that they are teaching him about god, after all, he is there for an education. I know this is a tricky situation but i'm willing to put aside my beliefs (or lack thereof) to benefit his learning. Any opinions?

Can you critique this song??

Verse I
I never had, anyone to hold
No one girl, to call my own
Always afraid of what people might say
That only forced me to push you away

Prechorus
I waited for the answer, so I could clear my head
But I failed to realize, that God sent you instead

Chorus
You came to me on the wings of an angel
But I was blinded by all of my lies
Now I know that you are my answer
Now I see, that you belong in my life

Verse II
I always thought I would be alone
No one to care for, or to call my own
My doubts and fears, are here no more
You’re the one that my heart longed for

Prechorus again

Chorus

how stupid do you think satan is? do you think satan would tell people it was inspired by him and still want u to believe it is gods word? isnt satan a liar and a deceiver? wouldnt that be considered a lie?

why do you call satan a liar but pretend he cannot lie, or call him a deceiver but pretend he cannot deceive...

do any of you stick to your story or do u make it up as u go?

Doesn't that totally contradict Jesus' teachings and message?

Some Christians complained that the Aztecs were uncivilized and deserved to be killed. HELLO???? How would you feel if your land was invaded by a totally foreign group of people? Besides, within 2 years the Aztec population was reduced to almost nothing because of the Christian invaders that brought disease and weaponry with them.

Same with the North Americans. While movies typically show Native Americans as the antagonists, it is in reality the people who took advantage of them and destroyed their culture (yes, Christopher Columbus was a Christian. And a very naughty one at that. He also contributed in reducing the Native American population to less than half of what is was before.)

Strange how religious always has a strong tie to power and wealth doesnt it?

I'm not even going to start on the witchhunts, crusades and inquisitions. *Sighs*

I'm glad my parents let me afford to have a decent education.

I am 16 years old and a former Christian, I converted to Buddhism in September, and I have been happy ever since. I am growing up and realizing that there is no god, and the power to heal our suffering can be achieved by following the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path. My family thinks that I worship Buddha, which is not true, because Buddha is not considered a god. He was an agnostic himself. I go to church, only because I am made to. I want my own religious freedom and be allowed to practise my own religion. How can I explain how I feel to my mother?

since the publication of Princess Sultana's books? I have read all three and am ashamed and disgusted by the depiction of the treatment of women in that backwards country. With the unlimited resources and education available to the Al Sauds, one would think that at least one of the overindulged wimps that pass for men over there would speak up and try to change things!
I applaud the woman behind the "Princess Sultana" nom de plume. She shows great courage and compassion in her work. Unfortunately, her hands are tied for the most part and I fear that little change has been effected.

what should we do? Say the supercollider experiments we will run in the near future unintentionally create a miniature universe (oh come on, just suppose). Are we morally responsible for the care of this universe?

How often do you think this happens?

Ok, I will be the first to admit that I don't really agree with their religious beliefs and I don't understand much about their culture.

Now, with that said, why do people hate them and call them terrorists and go on and on about how evil they are?

It reminds me of various lessons garnered from history.

Jews were seen as evil and hated throughout history for various reasons ranging from Christ' crusifiction to worries about their assumed greed and malice.

Germans were seen as evil because of Hitler. No explanation needed there.

Japanese were seen as war mongors and murderous monsters because they bombed Pearl Harbor and were cruel to POW's to the point of torchering them to death.

The Aztec's were seen as savages and for this they were nearly wiped out.All because their culture and beliefs were different and perhaps gruesome to an outside observer.

Well, the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the developed world. America's teenage birth rate is about 43 per 1000 women.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_pregnancy#North_America

Compare that to of Japan. It has a very, very small percentage of Christians, and yet it has one of the lowest rate of teen pregnancy ever (about 4/1000 women).

Apparently, being religious does not always come hand in hand with being responsible and sensible...

Ok so most of us agree that the story of creation is not fact. What I want to know is that if we take out the arguement as to whether it is a true account or not do you see any beauty in the story itself. I think that as a concept it is quite beautiful is quite a wonderful way of explaining creation to a community that wouldnt have understood science the way we can now.
