I have a debate tomorrow in Bible class about whether or not it was God's will for Paul to go to Jerusalem, where do you stand, what do you think?

Do you mean Rome? Many have debated his going to Rome as he was imprisoned there but it was indeed Gods will as he later found out as many of his epistles were written there and many converts were made there. Rome ended up being one of the most stable churches.

You have to ask the question... Did Paul make it to Jerusalem? Yes or No... You ask if it is God's Will... If God's Will is for Paul to stay alive til he makes Jerusalem. What happens? God will keep him alive.

If it is God's Will that he does not make it. Then try as he will, he's not going to make it to Jerusalem.

I believe it was.
I believe he knew what was in store for him.
I believe he was destined to be taken to Rome where several new churches started.
He even converted the jailers in Caesar's palace.

Paul declared himself to be a bond-servant of Christ.
That means that he was bound to a master that had set him free.
Church history shows that Paul refused to be blindfolded before being beheaded, and that he would not put his neck on the block face down, he demanded and got the privilege to be face up looking into the heavens when the sword came down on his neck.

Was it God's will? This is a question that we need to look at. He was warned about what would happen if he did go. However, one must see the total outcome of him going to Jer. By going to Jer. he ended up where God said he would which is Rome. So I guess one needs to look at the outcome. And also remember God know what you are going to do before you do it even though it is your choice. Chew on that for a While

Just think, if he hadn't gone, he wouldn't have gotten arrested, and he wouldn't have had time to write some of the letters that make up half of the New Testament. Besides, he had been wanting to go to Rome for years, and he got a free ride.

I think you should stop going to bible class. That question is enough to put someone to sleep. Go out and do something fun.
