I've heard many people call the Bible a fairy tale, God a delusion, and prayer as something that isn't real and is only imagined. What I want to know is, WHY are you so sure?

The same reason you are so sure that belief in Odin and Thor is a delusion.

Do you think that people who call the Bible a fairy tale, God a delusion, and prayer as something that isn't real and is only imagined OPPOSE Christianity? I don't think they are opposing anything; they are expressing their true beliefs (or non-beliefs). Oh, and do you also think that people who say all those things also OPPOSE Jews and Muslims? Why is it always either Christian or nothing?

The bible isn't a fairy tale, it is a collection of myths, allegories, and old laws. How are you so sure the Book of the Dead, Bhagda Vita, and the Quran are not authentic?

I am as certain God (YHWY) does not exist, just as you are certain Horus and Zeus do not exist.

If prayer worked millions of starving children would not be dying each year due to disease and malnutrition. Why doesn't god answer the prayers of starving children who only ask for enough water and food to survive the day?

I am an Atheist.
I was once Christian.

First of all....those people that tell you to be what I call being nearly "perfect"...Lie so much.
They have their own little lives where they do these horrible "sins". They basically think that they need to tell you to be something, but they don't have to be that good or half that good....

Second...
I prayed for those many years I was a Christian.
I was supposedly "saved". I tried getting my brothers and sister away from my abusive mother. Psh. God didn't answer them...and if he's real like everyone is trying to tell me...he sure didn't care to try.

And he hasn't helped those lost little souls in Africa....so I don't wanna hear it.

So the guy can't be real. Christians and other religions use their Gods and nature and so on to get on through life. If they didn't have them....they think their society will collapse or they will be punished by that God.

Yes I am sure. Why? Because I was a Christian for 20 some years, I know the bible backwards and forwards, I am very familiar with your God. I have also studied mythology when I was in college. Your bible is much like any other mythology, in fact it was based on other cultures myths. It is not original at all. Now since all religions are based on their respective cultures mythologies, why should I pick a Middle Eastern one over that of my own ancestors?

Oh yes here we go, if there is a God why are there starving children, why are there bad things happening in the world. Well let me tell you it is not because of a so called "cruel" God it is because....now take resposibilty people, it is humans. There are humans that keep food from their own countrymen, there are humans that hurt and kill, there are parents on drugs . Give me a break blame God because we can't take responsibilty for this messed up world we live in. I am not opposed to Christianity because I am a christian. I am sure because God has answered prayers and I have seen miracles in my own life. Not stories from someone else so I believe with all my heart that God is loving and faithful. It is so simple yet we make it so complicated.

It's not just the atheists who despise Christianity. I don't call God a delusion, or prayer imaginary, but I am opposed to Christianity.

But nobody is "SURE," not even you. Christianity is nothing more than just another religion. It's no more valid than the religions it sought to replace, and significantly less interesting. In the modern world, it does more harm than good by opposing science and education

I'm opposed to Christianity for *me*. You can be what you want. I used to be a Christian.

1. I prayed to God, nothing ever happened.
2. I never felt God or Jesus. They just never resonated with me.
3. The bible is nothing more than a collection of moral fables. Example: One guy can't build an ark large enough to fit 2 of each animal, then go out and capture those animals and live peaceably on a boat with all those animals with no food and water for all those animals - etc.... I'm thinking funnel web spiders, venemous snakes etc... Along with large predators... Really poisoness and deadly animals. Sorry - that's impossible.
4. I don't believe that Deity is just like us and my spiritual experiences since my days as a Christian have proven to me that the Christian perception of Deity is off.

I'm sure because I've been there and done that and it didn't work for me.

It's not a matter of being sure. It's a matter of evidence (or lack of evidence, unabiguous evidence that's acknowledge as evidence by all)

There are MANY religious beliefs. The same could be said of them.

Are you so certain of Judaism or Islam not being the only way to heaven? How about Hinduism? If so, what evidence do you have to believe so?

Consider the evidence you feel is valid - probably the bible. People of the other faiths wouldn't take it as valid evidence, just as you wouldn't consider the Koran to be evidence that Islam is correct, or the Torah as evidence that Judaism is the only way.

I think what people are trying to say with regards to Zeus, pink unicorns, flying spaghetti, etc. is that Christianity is similar in that it cannot be proven either way. It's just a belief. You can't prove there is no Bigfoot, Dracula, or God.

If none of those can be proven, where do you draw the line?
Why is believing in Christianity ok but not Zeus or Hera?
