Meaning of life... humans on the planet

2006-10-20 10:30:01 · 6 answers · asked by wonderingwhoiis 2

Written by William Blake inf 1831
I

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide!
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

2
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

3
I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

4
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me!

shabbat shalom :)

if there are any jews on right now (its not exactly the best time of the week to ask a question online to jews lol) i was just wondering if you have any special shabbat traditions other than the regular ones? what is shabbat like for you personally?

and also, just an amusing video to put us into the shabbat mood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdqbQNrF_YE

enjoy :)

It's Crap. Dianetics is BS. How can you get rid of the reactive mind? That's like saying that they are taking a piece of your brain out of you so you can forget about the bad, stupid, ugly things you've done. Why would you want to forget when, where, and how you did something wrong if you learn something from it? i.e. learned a lesson, learned right from wrong because of the effect of your cause that you yourself made? Basically L. Ron Hubbard is saying you can simply forget about all the bad things you did and start fresh, and make the same mistakes over and over again because your religion tells you that you are freed if you stick to the "Step by Step" process of cleansing yourself of your "engrams".
And isn't "auditing" the very thing psychology is? I mean, when you go see a psychologist or therapist regarding your problems, you talk about them right? This guy is a freakin Science Fiction Author for god sakes, not a spiritual leader. HOLD ON, I HAVE TO POST AN ADD ON.

is it such a thing to be so absorbed in god's word until your closest friend's feel you are beating them over the head with the word and when they see you coming they run away because of your preaching/ranting/raveing about the word... and yes i 'am a christian?

There is no part of the brain that can be stimulated to evoke a mind. Thus, where comes the mind? Is it spirit? Is it soul?

Matter does not possess the property of consciousness, for if it did, we would have no free will. We would be deterministisic, in a materialistic universe.

Just a thought.

There's a logical problem with the existence of an omnipotent deity. Omnipotence (literally, "all power") is power with no limits or inexhaustible, in other words, unlimited power. If this is so, to have unlimited power you'd have to have the ability to destroy anything, right? That would have to include yourself since you are something. If God can destroy himself, he's mortal and therefore not omnipotent. If he cannot destroy himself he's limited in power, same problem. Omnipotence is a logical fallacy.

I occasionally get very accurate but totally random and useless snippets of thing that are going to happen. Has anyone else had this happen and do you have any control over it?
PS I'm not crazy, proof available upon request :)

"You may think that you have to combat evil and chase it out of your heart and mind, but this is wrong. The practice is to transform yourself. If you don't have garbage, you have nothing to use in order to make compost. If you have no compost, you have nothing to nourish the flower in you." Thich Nhat Hanh

Especially if he is jealous? Psycologicly, Jealousy is a sign of insecurity and doubt in yourself. How can somthing that is perfect have this type of flaw?

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

I'm not offended by a thumbs down at all, I just think it's people's way of saying they disagree with you and that's fine.

Sometimes I write an answer that I know is controversial, so I figure it will get it's share of thumbs down, and then it gets a bunch of thumbs up, other times I write something that seems so mild that I figure it will get a thumbs up or nothing at all, and I end up surprised by lots of downward thumbs.

Anybody else? You can be as generic or detailed as you like.

-yes, I am actually so bored that I'm interested in this right now :)
