Written by William Blake inf 1831
I
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide!
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
3
I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.
4
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me!

J.F. you are making me cry. I am so sad that many people died for freedom and that freedom is still not in everyones grasp.

My favorite which used to be sung on many hospital ships during WWI is "There Is A Green Hill Far Away." It follows as so;
There is a green hill far away,
Outside a city wall,
Where the dear Lord was crucified,
Who died to save us all.
Refrain
O dearly, dearly, has He loved,
And we must love Him, too,
And trust in His redeeming blood,
And try His works to do.
We may not know, we cannot tell,
What pains He had to bear;
But we believe it was for us
He hung and suffered there.
Refrain
He died that we might be forgiv’n,
He died to make us good,
That we might go at last to Heav’n,
Saved by His precious blood.
Refrain
There was no other good enough
To pay the price of sin;
He only could unlock the gate
Of heaven and let us in.
Refrain
O dearly, dearly has He loved,
And we must love Him, too,
And trust in His redeeming blood,
And try His works to do.
Refrain
When I first heard it and everytime after so, it is sweet, comfortable music to my heart. It was espcially known on the British hospital liner, HMHS Britannic between 1915-1916.

Oooooh Good question!!
I love SO many! This is hard question for me because I know once I put one down, I will think of another!!
Be thou my vision-
More Precious than Silver-
O The Wonderful Cross-
(And these are not hymns but SO powerful and I love it)
--In Christ I stand-
And "Give us Clean Hands!"
--"Give us clean hands O God! Give us pure hearts! Let us not lift our souls to another, O God let us be a generation that seeks- Seeks your face O God of Jacob!!"

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
***
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Sorrowing I shall be in spirit,
Till released from flesh and sin,
Yet from what I do inherit,
Here Thy praises I'll begin;
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.
O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.
