The Bible will tell you how much God loves you. The Book of Mormon will tell you why. By the mouths of two witnesses is the truth established.

I haven't read the other answers here, but try this website. Read the title page, introduction and the testimony of the three witnesses and the testimony of the eight witnesses.
There are also book and chapter headings at the beginning of each chapter.
As a convert to the church all I can tell you is that I was a little skeptical when I began reading it, but by the time I got 1/2 way through 1Nephi, I knew it was true - although I didn't get baptized until I was at least 1/2 way through Heleman.
The best way to find out is to just read the book. Find the missionaries or a mormon neighbor and ask questions.

The official title is The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Mormons believe it to be the Word of God on par with the Bible. They believe the Bible is God's dealings with the people in the Holy Land and the Book of Mormon is God's dealings with the people in the American continent a couple thousand years ago thus the "Another Testament" moniker. I have read through the answers to your posted question and most of them are pretty far off topic as far as I can tell. If you want a synopsis from an official point of view go to http://www.mormon.org and read about the Book of Mormon. They will even send you one for free.

If you get a physical copy of The Book of Mormon, it has a synopsis that details what it is about and also a description of where the Mormons believe it came from. It also has the testimony of a several witnesses that were around when the BoM was being put together in the form it is in now that vouch for it and its claims.

If you really want to know what is with the Book of Mormon, just get one and read it. It isn't the easiest read because it is written in sort of "King James Version" language. You can read it online in its entirety at http://www.lds.org [click the hyperlink to scriptures].

All I can say is those that believe in the Book of Mormon say that it teaches and clarifies the same gospel as the Bible. Those that don't believe in it say it goes against the Bible. Both sides can argue their points and recite passages to support their point. I think if you are curious, just read it and make your own mind up about its veracity.

If you truly can't be bothered to check it out in more detail, just look it up on www.wikipedia.com. There is a synopsis there.

I too am a Christian, and I am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I joined as an adult after being agnostic for many, many years.
A good starting website would be: http://www.mormon.org/welcome/0,6929,403-1,00.html
This is a good basic introduction, as well as being a good source to receive a copy of The Book of Mormon.
The Book of Mormon does not replace the Holy Bible, it complements it. We study the Bible (King James Version) both Old and New Testament, in Sunday School, as well as the Book of Mormon, which we consider to be another testament to the Bible.
Joseph Smith was wondering about religion as a young boy as he read this scripture- James 1: 5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
The Book of Mormon does change lives...(and we are not a cult!)

Remember that the Book of Mormon does not replace the Bible. The Bible was written by prophets in the eastern hemisphere, and the Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets on the western hemisphere. The two books go hand in hand to testify of Christ.

I know many people that believed in God and have read the Bible, but when they read the Book of Mormon it has strengthened the knowledge and feelings that they had before. It is another witness of Christ and clarifies many things in the Bible.

Give the book a chance by reading it and find out for yourself if it is the word of God. Don't listen to all the critics that have never seriously read it.

In mormonism, we believe that jesus visited a society that lived in the americas during the resurection. The book of mormon talks about stories of these people. Try doing a google search for "the church of jesus christ of latter day saints" make sure its the website for the religion and not some page filled with anti-mormon propaganda.

OVERVIEW: They believe in a prophet named Joseph Smith who wrote the Book of Mormon & rewrote the bible to what it was supposed to say. They have similar beliefs but have a different "theory" of what happens after death. They believe they (mormons) have the highest place in heaven, whereas EVERYONE WHO IS NOT MORMON, will have to learn what we didn't on earth. Every church sort of claims that so that's no biggy, but they will probably come to your door soon & inform u. That's how I learned, I love to talk about Jesus & God and stuff. So I had no problem inviting them in, but when I asked them Q's like "where do u stand on abortion? Gays? I have a child out of wedlock~ what does that mean to u?" They COMPLETELY ignored my q's~ like "uh-oh! We got a thinker, doh!" They left, but they are not ALL bad, they are like any other religion sort of, with goods and bads. To each his own. At least they worship God, that's what matters.

I've read a lot that has been posted and as you can see, there are so many different perspectives. If you want to learn more, I would go to www.mormon.org. The website is set up for people who want to know more. Like you said, it has "changed so many lives" including mine, and just check it out for yourself. The website will help you understand what you have been curious about.

The book of Mormon is named for a ancient profit and warrior named Mormon who visited Joseph Smith in the early 1800,s and told him of the life of Christ in the Americas after the Resurrection. Joseph Smith then wrote the book of Mormon and established the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. That is why it has changed lives. As to the validity of the book and the religion that is for smarter people then me to figure out. Your local library might have a copy to look at if you are interested.

The best thing you can do is to find out for yourself and not listen to others. You can go to www.lds.org or even www.mormon.org to learn more about the religion who teach the book of mormon along with the bible.

Just remember the teachings of Christ and that "by their fruits ye shall know them."
