For my theatre/English class for an online class for college I had to read plays and literature from Ancient Greece and Rome and other periods. What I noticed was that beautiful and handsome was used interchangeably between the sexes. There was a part where a woman's features were handsome and beautiful for man. But these were compliments, therefore, it seems that both meant good looking and weren't specific in the type of good looks. So it made me wonder what caused these terms to be associated as we do in modern times. For example, we associate beautiful with soft delicate, pretty, elegant features, therefore, this can be used for men, but mostly it's associated with women, since these adjectives sound feminine. And handsome is associated with good looks with symmetry, but stunning and attractive in a bolder way, or sublime beauty I guess. Since men have more prominent features, this term associates best with men and masculinity.

But if a woman does it, she's putting herself in the position to be beaten, raped, robbed, or killed. That's a double-standard. Why is it OK for men but unwise for women?

Gonna move too Oklahoma after the holidays. I currently live in Riverside Ca, Not the greatest place with lots and lots of crime there.Checked out Oklahoma this summer(hot and humid) but housing was so cheap and the people were very friendly. Thinking about spending around 240-270k on a new home any ideas would help. I liked Norman.Have been told that Edmond and Broken Arrow are very nice......would love to hear from someone who has lived in the area or currently lives there. Thanks!!

Every morning, after a cold shower and bowl of Cheeri-O's, I head to the living room, flip to the news, and click "answer.", as it is boldy displayed at the apex of my screen. My spiritedness and optimism about the upcoming day is suddenly diminished when I look at the Answers home screen is cluttered with nothing more that can be described as, well, crap. Not just on answers, but in everyday life, and even on the news. These are all things about killing, drug abuse; morbid and frankly awful things that can on be desribed with a frown just by the connatation of their titles. And if it isn't drive by shootings and flu vaccines, it's about weight loss, depression, suicide, or drunk driving.

These are questions that seriously compell me and make me ponder about the direction in which America's citizens are traveling when it comes to lifestyles. America is becoming a country that is selfish, corrupted by the media, and less educated.

Where do you think we are headed?

A heinous murder is committed by a person born and raised in America. This person flees the country to avoid prosecution. A heinous murder is committed by a person who is an illegal alien who resides in America. After the crime is committed, the illegal alien flees back to his/her own country. Do you think one crime is worse or more tragic than the other? Why or why not? Answer must be complete in order to be considered "best". Thanks

I am 35 never married, no kids, no friends, or have any desire to have those things. I usually spend all my time in the house, mostly in the same room and drink a lot of hard liquor. I do not leave the house for anything, except for food. That means I never come into contact with anyone, not even my parents or other relatives. I haven't seen the parents since the early 90's and they live in the same small town. I do have a college degree from a state school, but I have no ambition to be anything in life. I love being a hermit. I just want to be left alone and live by myself. So, what is your opinion. Am I a loser.
