Why do you think a lot of these non-Americans on here are OBSESSED with us and the stereotypes they see on TV?

Arwen, I get what you mean! I went abroad with some friends and once we set foot in another country, they proceeded to act as stereotypical as they possibly could. It drove me insane.

Insecurity. People who tend to be obsessed with the negative qualities of others are insecure that those others might just be a bit better than they are.

Because you get the idiot Americans that think they know everything and those tend to stand out more than the rest of us. I lived in Germany for 3 years on a military instillation and you could see the difference in the loud obnoxious Americans and the normal kinda laid back ones. The thing is people like hating us and those obnoxious people just fuel the fire.

I think it's hilarious. I didn't know that we were so important that they have to obsess over us so much. By the same token, most Americans don't give them a second thought and don't take time out to post stupid questions about why they do this and that and say this and say that. It makes them looks so pathetic, if you ask me, wasting their time worrying about Americans' accents and spending habits and eating habits and houses and -- I could go on and on and on ....

Try addressing this questions to Europeans.
Actually I think they hate our politics. It's reactionary. We wait until we're slapped in the face with something before we respond. We see it as live and let live, but they don't know how to approach us.
