They think killing is a way to a better after life. B.S.

America has no business trying to change people who don't want to be changed.

Admittedly Rev. Sharpton is more acerbic and less cerebral than Dr. M.L.King in pushing for civil rights but will his legacy have a more dramatic and enduring impact on our society?
One thing seems evident is we will become more "politically correct" and have free speech curtailed.
The most strenuous argument I remember from 8th Grade Civics was Freedom of Speech, our First Amendment, basically you can voice a view (remember our flag can be burned with impunity,Catholics can be ridiculed ad Nauseum...just watch late night MNN and the performance of "nuns" supposedly cooking a meal, Re. Jackson can call NYC "Himey Town") but you CANNOT yell "Fire" in a crowded theatre.
Why silence a person rather than have a full venting of their opinions and subject it to scrutiny exposing it to a full range of views?
Rev. Sharpton may have been more successful in changing our Constitution than the 2/3's of state's required to enact an amendment.

I'm trying to meet and make new friends and socialize. But I dont want to be around people who drink alcohol or use drugs. Not to discriminate or put down anyone, to each his own, but this is just my preference. I've had some not so pleasant and not so positive experiences hanging around people who drink or use drugs (yes, this includes the ones who use and drink "on occasion"), and I just dont want to be around it when I decide to go out to socialize and have fun.

I know there has to be some particular areas or groups or gatherings, etc., that drug-less people hang out at and people who dont have to "have drinks" to have a good time, but I dont know where the places are. Can anyone tell me if they have an idea(s)? I appreciate it, and thanks in advance :)

I survive on SUBSTANTIALLY less than doctors so I know it's possible to do.

Getting insurance to pay for inflated costs doesn't help anyone, it still raises the overall costs of health care for everyone.

Why don't doctor SHOW their altruism instead of speak of it? They could take substantial pay cuts and STILL make more than the average person. And they would have more credibility in their professed motivations.

Hey meat-eating jerks. We are on the top of the food chain for a reason. Now we can pick what we shall eat. If you eat poor animals you should burn in hell as they are defenseless and who are you to play God and eat them? BURN.

I saw these recently, and it showed the confederacy in a 'positive' light, all brave, noble, and freedom loving, and the black slaves as happy, hard-working, and grateful.

All the talk of war has made me wonder how many people out there believe that violence really represents a solution to problems. Sure, we all say that violence is wrong, and we all hate the loss of life that occurs in war, but many people and many men believe that "violence is the supreme authority from which all other authority is derived." If that's true, how can mankind ever move beyond the nasty habit of killing one another and get down to the business of BUILDING a better world? It's true that we live in a complicated world with no easy answers, but what are we doing to change it? Can we change it? Young boys still enjoy playing games that generally involve shooting, fighting, wrestling or some kind of conflict. There is rarely an interest in games that involve building, creativity, sharing, and a respect for the world around them. Why? Before you answer any of these things, I know some of you may wonder if I some "love and peace, tree-hugging, liberal pansy". I am not. Thoughts?

Jan came home from school today acting the same as she has been for a couple of weeks now.....she was very quiet, and when I asked her how her day went she said "o.k." and walked away. At dinner she doesn't talk either, and she seems to be off in another world. Her friends call, and she doesn't want to talk to them. She goes on a lot of "walks" and when she comes back she acts really jittery. I have also noticed some things missing from her room.

This is totally hypothetical, I am just tyring to see if everyone "looking in" has the same idea of the problem and how to fix it. Call it a study on human behavior and how perceptive we are to the problems that surround us.

We live in an upper class neighborhood, one of the nicest in our town in a big house. We take our children on vacation two times a year, they have every toy, video game, hand held electronics, etc available. They are not always unappreciative in what they receive, but many times it's just not enough. They only know the life we have and that of their friends and neighbors. How do they experience the real world, where there are children with next to nothing? I enjoy giving them everything but wish they would appreciate it a little more and understand how lucky they are. Talking does no good - they don't see what they don't have, so they can't comprehend it. It's almost not their fault. HELP!!

Think about peope in general; humanity. What do you admire?

Me, I love the beauty of art, music, poetry, stories--I love the creativity. But even more, I love the blessed, sainted souls who have sacrificed their lives for another!

Also, I love people who love others.

There's this girl, I'm friends with her and I like her a lot. I did something very stupid last night. I got my friends to call her for me and then all I could say on the phone was sorry the whole time. I wasted her time for no reason (Boarding school). SO today I don't know how she'll react. ALl my friends thinks she likes me but I want to be certain. How should go about telling her and making up for last night. This usually doesn't happen to me but I think is because i might like her a bit more than I admit to myself

WOW! to be a black girl you are so pretty. (this happens to me quite often, why? do people expect black women to be unattractive? because they always act so shocked about it...)
I always just laugh it off, because someone being attractive shouldnt have anything to do with race, should it?
why cant i just be a pretty girl?

So many keep asking why are there historically black colleges? DUH! because the other colleges used to be white only and blacks didnt have the same rights as whites. there was a time that blacks werent allowed to learn to read. these colleges were developed years ago to give blacks that oppurtunity, DUH! anyone can go, DUH. and if you arent black you would be considered a minority and chances are you would recieve a scholarship and go for free DUH!! research your ?'s before you post them, otherwise you look like an idiot.

I don't mind them. Kind of funny that casually wearing it is still the norm in some parts of the US. If I wore a cowboy hat, I would feel like a poser because I'm not a cowboy.
