Email is SO easy and brings us in touch with people quickly, but I remember how fun it was to find I'd received a letter from someone. Sitting down to read it, maybe even struggling to decipher handwriting, and then getting out pen and paper to write a response.

So, are you a letter writer?

I see it used so often by todays' youth. Being of a different generation, the current meaning escapes me.

As a 49 yr old southern white Christian woman, I have never owned a black slave (or anyone of any race) so why am I, along with the rest of white America, made to feel that we were personally responsible for slavery. I agree that it was a bleak time in history but it was no worse than the holocaust or other periods when man tried to control others. People like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton just perpetuate racism. As "Reverands" and I use the term loosly, they obviously didn't read about forgiveness in their Bible (or maybe they had it removed). They are even able to provoke racist feelings in me even though I don't like it. It's time to let the past be the past and move on to make our time on earth count for something positive. As long as people live in the past they will never move forward.

im going to throw a suprise birthday party for my boyfriends 18th birthday. the problem is that i cant have it at my house, cause he lives about 45 minutes away, and i want to cater to the needs of his friends. so, we're probably just going to reserve seats and shiz at chuck e. cheese. my question is, am i expected to pay for everyone, and would it be rude to ask them to pay the $10-15 it would cost them? i'm going to pay for me, him, the cake, and whatever extras we'd need (at least $50 im thinking), and we're all just high school students. prom is right before his birthday, so i'm not going to have a whole bunch of spare cash >.<

also, what would be a cool way to drag him to the party without him guessing all that's happening or w/e? like, he's gonna know its for his birthday if all goes as planned and its celebrated on that day. but how do i keep him guessing and transport him there and with what excuse? shoot for the moon, the wilder the better :P

i'm just curious b/c i feel like this often. i know so many "kids" who are just coasting through life on mom & dad's dime and don't understand that it takes actual effort and work to be successful in life.
sure, mom and dad should cut those purse strings, but what do you think is the cause of this mentality??

is it things like the internet...the world at your fingertips??the idea that cable modem can get you whatever you want at the click of a mouse??

is it parents not wanting to be a "bad guy"??

is it the "village's" fault for not holding them accountable enough?? (example...any teen who gets let off for committing a crime b/c they are young and "made a mistake")??

just looking for ideas and feel free to argue against me...but it you do, please give support to your argument so i can maybe understand your side!

thanks!

It's normal that one person choose as favorite a brother, a cousin, an uncle, or some other relatives. But, what about your parents. Do you have preference for your mother or your father? Or the love is the same?

My momma says 1/200 ( she read somewhere she said.) But that sounds WAY too low. I wanna say it's 1/32 or something, but I'm not sure and I haven't been able to find it yet.
