Admittedly Rev. Sharpton is more acerbic and less cerebral than Dr. M.L.King in pushing for civil rights but will his legacy have a more dramatic and enduring impact on our society?
One thing seems evident is we will become more "politically correct" and have free speech curtailed.
The most strenuous argument I remember from 8th Grade Civics was Freedom of Speech, our First Amendment, basically you can voice a view (remember our flag can be burned with impunity,Catholics can be ridiculed ad Nauseum...just watch late night MNN and the performance of "nuns" supposedly cooking a meal, Re. Jackson can call NYC "Himey Town") but you CANNOT yell "Fire" in a crowded theatre.
Why silence a person rather than have a full venting of their opinions and subject it to scrutiny exposing it to a full range of views?
Rev. Sharpton may have been more successful in changing our Constitution than the 2/3's of state's required to enact an amendment.

Sharpton and Jackson have done more harm to the cause of black Americans than has all of the racial remarks spoken against those Americans. Both Sharpton and Jackson pimp their people and can NOT resist the glare of the TV camera lights.

Neither of those men seem to want to address problems within the black community; to do so would mean that they would lose support. Both of those men have been nailed to the wall with their hypocrisy and immorality and yet they continue to be regarded as the contemporary leaders of the civil rights movement.

There is NO comparison to be made between the good Rev. Dr. King and these two charletans.

There is irony in restricting speech for political or racial reasons in that rather than uniting people it drives resentment and division deeper.

To be free means to take risks and to endure, forebear and consider EVERY idea and expression whether you agree with it or not.

Hopefully, Sharpton and Jackson will never achieve a lasting impact on our nation.
While Dr. King worked for civil rights and an end to racism, the actions of Sharpton & Jackson have actually re-enforced the walls of racism.
The two of them are ALWAYS the first to play the race card.

Absolutely not, and what else does he need to change? How many more rights does one race need? enough is enough, Mr. Sharpton will never be like M.L.K., he doesn't have the respect Mr. King had. I think he is quite shady and if anything he is going to ruin race relations,The whites and blacks have come along way in the last few years and this joker just wants to instigate more problems. He needs to go back to his church where he became rich and pray for forgiveness for all this hate hes breeding.

I think Thurgood Marshall had a much greater effect than MLK. I also think Julian Bond, then and now, have much greater impact than either sharpton or Jackson. They have OK organizations but so many more Blacks are more focused. I really like Cornel West.
