Hello and Thank you to those who took the time to read and answer my question.
I am currently a sophmore, and have always been interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. I know that G.P.A is a major factor in pledging any sorority. My question is. during my freshman my grades were very bad(withdrew from classes due to family problems), Although I managed to bring my grades up and maintain my G.P.A, I would like to know will that affect my chances in receiving an acceptance letter to join the line?

Here's the thing. I have a profound hearing loss from life long ear infections and improper treatment.
I know sign language. I use it for jury duty and important things (I depend on sign and lipreading) but I dont use it in normal every day life. Why? Because while I can sign fairly well, when I read someone signing back to me in casual conversation I freeze up, panic and cant understand a single word they sign.
I cant hear well enough to deal with hearing people..I cant hear anything under 70 db.
I am a hermit and so miserable. What am I to do?

If I wore a piece of jewelry that was African, would that violate some sort of cross-cultural taboo? I am as white as snow--would some black people be angry with me for wearing African clothing or jewelry?

So you don't/can't believe in God or a higher order in the universe? What then is the highest calling of mankind? What is the most glorious thing that we can strive for?

I think I might know what it is. Nothing original really, just this:

Ensure the continued survival and advancement of mankind

If we perfect this task we may even be able to achieve a level 3 civilization on the kardashev scale or even outlast the end of the universe (see "The Last Question" short story by Isaac Asimov). We might have the potential to become perfect.

If you believe in the Judeo-Christian God then consider this: Maybe the New Life (paradise) promised by Jesus is actually an ultrafuturist human age of perfect happiness and unlimited life! Maybe by that age, God's children will have mastered everything in the multiverse and will have the ability to reconstruct the bodies of the pure spirits.

This is my speculation, we cannot know for sure. Either way, doesn't this look like a unifying goal for all?

I thought they were like some people like me and you, who believe
in Jesus.Just because they don't celebrate holidays,it doesn't mean that these are "Unchristian" like most people would say.For those who believe in god,god did not say "You have to celebrate Christmas
to believe in god.All of the s--- that Ive learned about most people,is that they judge what they don't know or understand.I'm not one of those people, but if they believe in god even if it's the wrong religion or right religion, who gives a f---?!

What the real world is like? You'll hear more about what Paris Hilton did at a nightclub, than how many people are dying in Dafur at the water cooler.

Are americans in denial? I know we're not just clueless.

I know I'm not outstandingly tall, not at all, I'm only 5'8'', but I have experienced so many girls near or at six feet all in one place that it now has me curious. I don't normally pay attention to this stuff, but it seems like I'm seeing this more and more when I walk the streets or any public place in general. I even saw girls who were like 11 or something nearing that height, just unbelievable.

My theory? I can't say all girls are getting taller because that also depends on ethnic groups, and which group growth is more frequent.

I use my height as my measuring stick. I'm a 5'8 22 year old and I've encountered young women, where I only reach their neck. Maybe I'm just very short....beats me.

They can just go and get an apartment and don't need a reason. They don't need parental approval. They don't have to try and make it work with their parents or go back home or to a relative,. They can just leave for any reason and get a grant for an apartment, fully furnished, for themselves, usually a two-bedroom. In my community, anyway.

Baggy pants, ripped jeans, short t-shirts, hair down to your ***, nose rings, skater shoes, liberal, rock stars eating live rats, drugs, booze, 'like', rap music, ignorance... There probably are a lot more but I can't think of them right now.

What happened to good ole' fashion values. You know? Like listening to Jazz music, dressing conservatively, being conservative, watching the likes of Humphrey Bogart or Fred Astaire, you know? Some days I get so frustrated how society has turned out, especially stupid youth. (I'm part of the 18-24 as well)

Do you have any campaign ideas for me? I want to get ready for the following student body election... I think I'm pretty good at planning events and giving ideas!! I like to use the character Stitch (from Disney's Lilo and Stitch), 'cuz I can imitate his voice, but I don't know if he's getting old now cuz I used him for the past two elections and he might be getting old...

We aren't allowed to bribe people such as passing out pens, candy, money (pfft!), but we ARE allowed to use stickers...

What should I do?? Any ideas about getting support, speech ideas, and pretty much any ideas are great, especially from people who have run for student body before and (preferably) have won!
