What the real world is like? You'll hear more about what Paris Hilton did at a nightclub, than how many people are dying in Dafur at the water cooler.

Are americans in denial? I know we're not just clueless.

Seriously, you are so right about that. I think we have all become too insensitized to all the really heavy stuff because its' all we see on TV. I remember how very effected I was when the shootings at Colombine happened and now when I hear about yet another school shooting, it's like Wow, that's too bad. How messed up is that? Honestly, I would rather not have to watch the news because I can't handle all of the evil that goes on in this world. Gosh, I think I have lost touch with reality.

I think that more people are talking about celebrities and other things as a scapegoat of what is going on in this world. They don't want to face what crappy day they are having when they can talk about someone who is on front of a magazine pantiles, and falling over.

But yes many are overly obesessed with paris hence the fact she is famous for not doing nothing , when there are a ton of non celebrities who are helping ppl around the world on a daily basis but doesnt even get noticed or what they are working on gets a 2 second spill on the news cause they want to talk about britney's new perfume or someone who is famous is in town.

If we focused more on what is going on in the real world i think there could be alot more progress in making it a somewhat better place

Yes, it is easier to believe that we are safe and the only thing important to the news is stupid people that have done nothing to add to society. We believe that we live in a country that can't be hurt by the beliefs of other nations. Did 911 not tell us the truth, or or we just sitting here thinking it is one thing that will never happen again, because we believe in our government? God please bless our souls. Wake up Americans, we are the target, we are the enemy, that most of the world hates. What do we do about it???

Sadly so. I think a lot of Americans just want to be force-fed things in the most painless, disconnected way possible. If it's not entertainment, many don't care about it. Why else would actors and athletes make so much more money than a doctor or teacher?

Humans in general are wrapped up in their own lives. It isn't just Americans. The Iraqis aren't worrying about Darfur, and the people of Darfur aren't worrying about Iraq. Those who live in countries without widespread strife are thinking about day to day problems, like paying bills and keeping kids safe.

I think each and every person on the planet should take an occasional time-out to view things from a broader perspective.

If you really want to get into it, you may want to define what you think reality is. There is a different reality for each and every person. I don't know what reality is anymore because I refuse to take someone else's word for it. I trust only in what I see with my own eyes. I no longer worry about what another's reality may be...it's probably wrong anyway.

You had better believe we are in denial, I am afraid that most of us feel powerless against the BIG problems of the world, so we stay in our little rat holes looking out and distracting ourselves as much as possible to avoid seeing what a mess our planet is in!
