I live in Rome and I study English, French and Spanish.....I need someone to better my English

I am a french major at my university. when my family and friends find out that my major is french, they usually get excited and ask "say something in french " I try to avoid the question because I am only on a beginners level. I always try to come up with something to say that will sound "intelligent" or "creative"...what is a phrase that I could say to really impress them. I simply don't know what to say in fear of sounding or looking foolish. lol please help me!

I wonder why 'change' comes though 'subject is thing. I would say like this: These are subjec to be changed, as it seems like a passive voice.

any language besides English (obviously), and make sure it's exactly right, and you label what language it is in. if you can give me more than one, it's appriciated as well. and, i'd especially like if someone could tell me the Finnish translation, by the way. :D

Please do not answer if you will just use an online spanish translator...

1. I'm trying to say that 'They built magnificent monuments that measured thirty feet tall and one hundred feet across'...
So far, I have 'construyeron monumentos magnificos que midieon treinta....how would you say the rest?...Do you use 'pies' for feet in this case?

2. To say '...this time period (500-1300) was called....' Would you say fue llamado or era llamado? Preterite or imperfect?

3. Is there a word for 'mitochondria' (in a cell) in spanish? Lol
I can't find it in the dictionary

4. How would you say 30,000 years ago? Treinta mil años....ago?

5. How do I translate 98.6 degrees fahrenheit into spanish? Noventa y ocho....point 6...grados F...? help?

6. 1/8 (the fraction) would be un octavo...right?
