I am about to start studying French and would also like to include another language in my degree. Is it difficult to learn two languages at once? Does it make a difference if one is a european language (e.g. French) and the other is an asian language (e.g. Mandarin Chinese or Japanese) - does this make it easier than studying 2 european languages at once? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

1) "Dark as it was, I didn't trip over once as I crossed the field to my home."
2) "Although it was dark, I didn't...."

Are there any differences in meaning?

i actually was quite skilled at the japanese language in my middle school years. but like most kids [I] slacked off and was lazy and just quite learning the language. the question is that how long would it take to be where i was back then. education is like school for me so you don't have to worry about how long i study it for. i think i was a little above intermediate level or something. and i'm not panicing of mastering the language because i intend to but can i have an estimate of how long it would take to have a normal conversation with someone who speaks japanese. i feel that if i know an estimate it would help plan my life better or something. i don't know i get this life planning bit from my mom

Our choir is going to perform a song with the following lyrics:
Adie awé. Adie amus ta. Odio natus daté. Adie wade tuwé madé. Awé tu wayee. Yakama yamaya kayamé dua. Yaa kaha maa meedu hee ...
Could it be an African language like Yoruba, or is it not an existing language at all?
Is there anybody who knows?
If it is a real language, can you translate the text for me?

It is a very nice song I like, but not being a Malian myself, I do not understand what she is saying. Oumou Sangare is a Malian lady and she sings in a language called Dioula or Jula.

My husband and I were discussing the trend of getting tattoos in Japanese symbols, and he mentioned that there is no symbol for his name. He then went on to say that there are in fact no symbols at all for English names. I said that the names would have to be written out in several symbols according to the Japanese alphabet, and he said that couldn't even be done because the English alphabet can't be translated into Japanese symbols. Any one with any knowledge of this please contribute, as I think that is ridiculous. Thanks!
