I believe personally that what is supposed to be a day of giving thanks for the birth of Christ has turned into a buying frenzy instead. People spending money they dont have only to be broke come January having to buy the most expensive gifts. I believe in not gift shopping because it takes away the full meaning of the day. I dont also understand why they call it a day where we do good or care about our fellow man and our family and friends. why cant people understand that it shouldnt only be just because it is chrismas to show a little kindness to people. It should be EVERYDAY! And so I have come to believe that the whole meaning of christmas has become nothing but a lie. People being kind to their fellow man and fa la laing but come January when all the decorations are put into storage again and things are taken down so does all the kindness for our fellow man. How many share my thoughts?

I have a 15 yr. old, 12 yr. old, and 9 yr. old. I also spoiled them on Christmas, I know my OWN fault. I was never able to spoil them throughout the year so I did it on Christmas. Now I don't have much money and bills are piling up. I just WISH I could skip the holidays ALL together. Anyone else feel the same way?

as the seasonal "kissing" plant? You know that mistletoe is a parasitic vine that sucks the sap out of a tree, right?

I am looking for a gift that isn't impersonel. I will be at their house Christmas morning without my husband-he has to work. They have 2 kids, and one on the way. They are in their early thirties. They are prbably more into function than fashion. Any ideas?

On average, including for what you might not have bought yet. Also, do you set a budget, or just buy what makes sense?

Hi, this Christmas I know my parents don't have much money so I wasn't expecting much for Christmas - last year I got a Harry Potter soundtrack CD and I was absolutely thrilled with it! Anyway, they surprised me with new tires for my car awhile back which was awesome because I really needed them, and that's not cheap! Anyway, I know they got my brother a PS3 among other things, my grandparents got a 20.1 inch LCD monitor, and they got my boyfriend a $50 rechargable wireless mouse for his computer along with some shirts for work (we live together), and I jokingly asked what he ordered me online (he had to order the mouse & monitor). He said he didn't have to order it he already bought it, I'd love it, and he got me lots of other stuff too!
I kept trying to tell them I was happy, I didn't need anything (I knew they'd get me SOMETHING though) and the tires were more than enough. Now I have lots more, and it'd be rude and hurtful to say "I don't want it". But I feel bad! What to do???

I always feel a little guilty being alone at Christmas. No nearby relatives and not any other single friend around. I used to get all sad and crying, but now just hope nobody notices I am home.I also mumble something unintelligable when people ask what I am going to do for Christmas. I am happy alone and enjoying something good to eat and watching TV or going to Church and in the afternoon to a movie. There are lots of things to do, besides the usually stressful stuff we think we must do on Christmas.

So what do you do when you are alone? Maybe it will give me some good ideas.

Also, how do you hide the fact you are alone, so that no self appointed santa's helper invites you over.

Ya know, I'm not being grinchy! It's just that I get tired of the traditional Christmas. I wonder if some people out there realize that the first Christmas was spent simply and humbly.

Why can't we all pray, meditate and be quiet on Christmas day? A lot of people get drunk on Christmas. Would the celebrant (Christ) appreciate that?

Now, what does Christmas really mean to you?

I heard that back then in the revolutionary time Christmas was pronounced Christ-mas with the emphasis on Christ

So when and why did people start pronouncing Christmas as we do today?

My kids are 12 and 11. I was pretty good at keeping them believing these last two years. I bought them present made out for some made up name one year. One year I helped my kids set up a secret camera and take a photo of of red hat (like the big foot pictures). Another year I bought one of them two of the identical presents (apparently I forgot to tell santa I got that one too) :)

Well, My darn ex finally told them santa isn't real. We were driving and I told them they better be good, because you know who is watching jokingly. My daughter said, "Santa isn't real. you're santa Mom told me after christmas last year.

How do you explain santa and still keep the spirit alive. I remember when I was younger, my mom would let me help her wrap presents and put things out for my younger brothers christmas eve. They don't have any younger siblings in my house.
