I am looking for a gift that isn't impersonel. I will be at their house Christmas morning without my husband-he has to work. They have 2 kids, and one on the way. They are in their early thirties. They are prbably more into function than fashion. Any ideas?

I have a great respect for you! This situation is a tough one, but my family has managed to overcome the bitterness and think of our children.

Every year me, my ex-husband and our kids, his new wife and their kids celebrate Christmas together. We even go Christmas shopping together. All the gifts come from Santa and we open them on Christmas morning. This makes it where no one misses out and our children love it.

I let my children go shopping for their dad. I give them $ to get him a gift and then they pick out a small gift to give to both their dad and his new wife. Something like a gift card, candles, family game, etc.

Hope this works for you and good luck! Its always better to stay friends for the children!

Bless you for continuing the celebrate Christmas with them for the sake of the children. My friend still celebrates his christmas with both families and he is a grown man. It makes him very happy that they do this.

I am not sure what they would like, but a great big basket full of treats either made or purchased is a nice gift. Add a bottle of champagne for your all to enjoy and some decorations made by the kids.

I must say, you are a better woman than most. You have been to their home before, I'm guessing, so how about a decor gift? Pick something that is personal to their decorating style. I'm sure they would appreciate anything you would give. Remember, it IS the thought that counts! Merry Christmas to you! :)

I would never give my husband's ex a gift, she is very cruel and evil towards me and my girls. However, I find it kind that you want to give yours a gift.
Maybe a nice photo album or scrapbook with fun stickers and paper, etc.
A movie night basket with popcorn, soda, a couple of movies and a nice warm throw.
A tray of homemade cookies and candy would be nice too.

If you want to get a gift that isnt impersonal, we'd have to know what they're like and we don't. Only you know what they are interested in. How much do you want to spend too?

You could always trying getting them a wii...great family game. A digital photo frame and possibly load up some family photos for them.

You are going to your husband's ex-wife's house for Christmas? And your husband won't be there?

I'm confused.

You mention that the ex-wife and her husband have 2 kids. But you don't mention anything about your husband having children with his ex-wife. So why are you there? Have I misunderstood something?

If they have kids together (your husband and his ex wife) just let the kids pick something out for their mom. Walmart sells necklaces with "mom" pendants for like $15-$20. If they don't have kids together then don't buy them anything.
