Well, the Chirstians hijacked the Pagan festival of Winter Solstice so call it that if you like!

Interesting question. Santa Claus comes from Saint Nicklaus via various languages. Santa therefore basically means "Saint" or "Holy" so you are proposing we keep the day holy - Holy Mass. Sounds fair, though we Catholics already have that every Sunday. Also Saint Nicholas does already have his own feast day on December 6th so it would be a bit OTT,

In addition, I don't think Santa Claus would like it, him being a devout Christian, a bishop even. Best leave it. I don't think it would be wise to offend Santa - not if you want to get any presents, that is.

Christmas-Christ! It's celebrating the birth of Christ. It's really only a celebration for professing Christians! So if you don't understand, you can call it whatever you want, just don't expect the 25 million Christians in America to change it. Merry Christmas!!!

well, i don't really care what it's called... I like the sound of 'Yule' and 'midwinter festival' is OK, if a little long.

But, whenever you suggest changing the name, people get all pi$$y and think you're a radical Muslim-loving, PC, guardian-reading god-hating liberal or something.

{ps - to fluffie and others, its not really jeebus's birthday! it's a pagan festival hijacked to celebrate an imaginary diety}

as far as I am concerned you could call it 'annual p*ss-up day', as long as I have a couple of days off and get to watch 'it's a wonderful life' again.
