I have a 15 yr. old, 12 yr. old, and 9 yr. old. I also spoiled them on Christmas, I know my OWN fault. I was never able to spoil them throughout the year so I did it on Christmas. Now I don't have much money and bills are piling up. I just WISH I could skip the holidays ALL together. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yep...my husband said those eaxct words to me the other day. Your kids aren't babies any more. Sit them down and explain the meaning of Christmas. Tell them you love them dearly and that the amount of money spent and Christmas is not the way to "measure" that love. Explain that you have budget for Christmas(whatever that may be) explain that there are other financial responsibilites that don't go away just because it's Christmas. Be honest and tell them you can not afford to sepnd on Christmas like you have in the past. Then purchase what you can afford for them. It's tough to have to "downgrade" But financial responsibilites...and limited resources are a part of life and they might as well learn this lesson now. They need to know that there are limits for everyone...even at Christmas. Hope this helps....try to have a happy holiday and don't focus so much on the "gifts". Enjoy being together.

It's sad how most parents feel OBLIGATED to put on a fantastic Xmas and buy their kids EXPENSIVE presents. We're not living in an age where you could gift your child with a knitted sweater and have them be thankful...(maybe that was 8 decades ago?) Your kids are old enough to be spoiled enough from previous years and *expect* all the gadgets and goodies that are out there. If you live near a homeless compound like my family and I do (Skid Row in L.A.) then drive your kids down there one evening so they can take a good look at how priviledged they are. Maybe then you will be able to skip the expensive presents this year and you can all volunteer as a family for the people who really need the Love of Christmas that's lost in all the wrapping paper and bows. GOOD LUCK!

I definately feel the, wanting to skip Christmas feeling. My boyfriend kicked my out of the house two days ago with only the clothes on my back and the two Christmas gifts I have in my car. I have no job no money and most of my family is in a big family fight. So the idea of Christmas being almost a week away just makes me sick. Bah Hum Bug to this Christmas!!!

No way. I love the Christmas holiday time. Maybe you can get an attitude change by watching the movie called a Christmas Carol or Its a Wonderful Life.

Get over it and stop spoiling your kids @ Christmas time. Do what you can without stressing about it. It's so not worth stressing over.

Tell them that mom couldn't afford much this year. If they complain tell them that they can have nothing then. Just because you had more money in the past doesn't mean they have to make you miserable this year!!

No because my grand kids love it so and I enjoy seeing them happy. Were it not for them I would sleep the day away.
