I heard that back then in the revolutionary time Christmas was pronounced Christ-mas with the emphasis on Christ

So when and why did people start pronouncing Christmas as we do today?

It always has been pronounced as it is today. It is the word "Christ" that has changed. In Latin and Greek it has a short "i" . The Old English was "Cristes masse" - kris-tez mass and the short "i" continued into Middle English. You can compare it with the word "christen". The pronunciation of "Christ" as we know it today is 16th century and was still flexible at the time of publication of the King James Version of the Bible.
