Christmas - November 2007

I am a 14 year old girl and I want to have a "glamourous" christmas party. I had one last year, but no one wanted to play any of the games, and everybody went in the mud and tracked it into the house. Anyways, there was a lot of drama... I want to have an awesome party this year that all my friends will enjoy, any ideas?
If it helps, I am a real girly girl, and I am really into fashion, I want this party to be glamourous. Maybe instead of a game we could do some sort of contest?

Every year, millions of shoe boxes filled with basic things (pencils, paper, soap, toothbrushes, etc.) are sent throughout the world to children.

I got involved a few years ago and got totally addicted! Collecting items all year is so fun, coming up with unique and useful things to send the children.

If you've never heard of this, or have and want more information, please do yourself (and a needy child) a favor, log on to Samaritans Purse's website; www.samaritanspurse.org today and check it out!

Make a child's day...

Collection begins November 12th and ends November 19th.

I know most are going to say its the celebration of the birth of Jesus. It is actually a Pagan Hioliday celebrating St Nick (Sankt Nikolaus): Was born in the 3rd century. A little further in depth study, and you will learn a lot of how early Pagan traditions became symbolic in the Christianized/Protestant version of Christmas (and other traditional holidays). Santa Clause on Christmas has no significance with Jesus Christ. The amanita muscaria mushroom was very poisonous (German word for poison is gift) which grows only under guess what? A pine tree(X-mas tree). Santas elves revolve around the krampus (thought to be St Nicks nemesis by some and helper by others). The Amanita muscaria mushroom was a drug if used in slight quantities. Reindeer who ate the mushroom were seen strangely leaping in the fields (flying reindeer).
Human use of the drug required it to be dried out. It was hung in a cloth sack by the fire place(stockings). By the way the colors of the mushroom red and white.

I've been to his parents the last 4 years and I did not have a good time. Last year was ok because his brother brought his gf so I had someone to talk to but he's single again. I don't feel comfortable around his family and his Mom and I have maybe spoken 5 times in 4 years and that consisted of hello and goodbye. His entire family has a huge attitude problem (I'm begining to think they aren't his real family because he's nothing like them) They don't drink either so I can't even entertain myself with drinking.

I know my bf will be hurt and will put up a fuss but those 3 hours are torture. I feel like an outcast or something when I'm there. My bf is very sociable with everyone and I don't want to follow him around like a puppy dog so I just sit on the couch and stare at the tv that has the volume turned off but is showing The Christmas Story. Is it really that bad if I skip this year?

I'd rather just stay home and finish wrapping gifts and watch Elf.

I would always find them in my mom's closet, and i would unrap them, and then after I finished looking at them, I would wrap them again. But I think my mom caught on to what I was doing, and I could never really find them again. I think she used to proabably hide them in the attic because I would never go up there. did anyone else do that?

what do you think about the consumer craze during the holidays and the gift buying/giving/receiving process? do you give presents every year? do you necessarily need to give/receive gifts in order to feel cared about and loved during christmas? if not, why do people still do it then? does it help or demean the holiday spirit? what does holiday spirit mean to you? what particularly about christmas makes you happy? or does it make you sad because usually during the holidays is when you feel extra special and the normal days are just normal again? is it drastically different from other big holidays? and explain all other opinions.thanks.

I need to buy my fiance's grandparents something for Christmas but I'm not sure what to get. He Nanny likes crafts and his Papal likes guns and stuff like that. I don't go to their house a lot so I'm not sure what they have and what they don't. I was thinking about making them a basket with homemade candies and a Christmas Candle. Do you think this would be good, or do you have any other ideas? Thanks!

I've only been able to find a few songs here and there but I would really like to get the whole album. My mom used to play it for me when I was a kid and I loved it, and now I'd like the chance to play it for my son this Christmas. Apparently it is available on one site but only for US residents and I'm in Canada. If anybody could help me out I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

In my family, we give each other lists of the things we want, and often those things are gift certificates, so that we can be sure to get exactly what we want and to make the process as easy as possible on the gift-giver.

My wife says that that's not the spirit of Christmas, that you're supposed to figure out what would be a good gift for someone. It's OK to ask for sizes and such, but she thinks that the thought and effort that go into the gift is what is important. You should give people things you want them to have.

Most importantly, she thinks most people think the way she does. I think most people have started being more practical and try to help each other out. What do most people do?

By "most people", of course, I mean "most people who celebrate Christmas".

My husband and I are in the process of buying our first home and he has decided to invited his dad, step-mom, and step-sister (who is about 13) over for Christmas dinner.
I have never cooked Christmas dinner before and I am nervous. I don't really want to go with the traditional turkey and ham since there will only be 5 of us, so I need ideas of what to make and side dishes. I am open to any ideas.
