well, neither do we so weve put em:
-on the stair rail
-on the support collumn at the end of the stairs
-using those hooks that are attatched to the wall with the adhesive strip that u pull out to remove the clip.

Maybe add a decoration to a wall such as a garland with flashing Christmas lights and a Merry Christmas sign. Then, hang the stocking under that.
Below are links to something like the sign I had in mind. WalMart or somebody should sell a long (4'+), skinny, sign that has just the letters MERRY CHRISTMAS. People put them on mantles and along the top borders of walls and doors.

One other place to hang your stockings in on the tree. They would look real nice there. Good luck, and Merry Christmas.

Even though I have a fireplace, we don't hang the stockings there, because we have fires. So, I have a buffet cabinet in the dining room, and it has knobs on the handles. We hang our stockings there. We have done it since the kids were little. But where ever they can hang would work. Whatever you start doing will become your tradition, and your kids will have fond memories. So where you hang them is really not a big deal. Have fun.

this is humorous it didnt start up out as putting Christmas stocking. It grew to become into constantly so chilly and moist(snowy) and there have been no dryers back then so human beings could carry there socks above the hearth to enable them to dry. over the years some human beings began putting presents in others socks on christmas and that how we've been given Christmas stockings.

We don't have a chimney either, so I bought the stocking holders that look like festive decorations on their own & are weighted. We put these across the top of the book case in our living room & everyone has their own holder for their own stocking.
I was at Target tonight & the holders are running between $10 for one to $30 for a set of 5. It all depends on the design you want.

When I didn't have a fireplace, I hung mine off the banister on the steps. I also have hung them right on the Christmas tree and on garlands around the front door.

you could buy some hooks to hang on the door and then hang the stockings on them so you won't have to nail them in...or hang them over the bottom of the bed!

When we didn't have a fire place I hung them on a wall and had these snowmen and hung them above them. I saw a house here in town, they hung them on the banister and decorated the banister with graland and red bows.
