what do you think about the consumer craze during the holidays and the gift buying/giving/receiving process? do you give presents every year? do you necessarily need to give/receive gifts in order to feel cared about and loved during christmas? if not, why do people still do it then? does it help or demean the holiday spirit? what does holiday spirit mean to you? what particularly about christmas makes you happy? or does it make you sad because usually during the holidays is when you feel extra special and the normal days are just normal again? is it drastically different from other big holidays? and explain all other opinions.thanks.

I mean what if everyone showed up without presents and it was similar to a thanksgiving reunion.during thanksgiving there is a huge feast and family gathering without presents & it still seems to be happy without the fuss over presents and other materialistic-induced happiness.christmas is nice with the cheery decorations, songs and family time but thanksgiving is less comercialized and I seem to enjoy that holiday more:)

I love giving more than receiving. This year, I've been able to buy more for my family than in years past. I hardly ever give any thought to what I am getting. I am so excited to see the happy faces Christmas morning. I think the exchanging of presents is something extra special. It doesn't have to be expensive, it needs to be from the heart and put thought into what you really think a person would like or what would be helpful to them.

Thanksgiving is fun too, but theres something about Christmas, with the lights and tree that make it extra special, so while I'd enjoy Christmas without any gifts, I do like it better with gifts...as long as I am the one giving. My hubby and I fight over who's going to buy more for the other. We love giving! We also love buying some extra clothes and toys for the more needy children so they can hopefully have a good Christmas as well.

Yes, I would still be a happy person if I didn't get anything for Christmas, and I would still take the time to stop and consider the meaning of the holiday.

If we didn't make arrangements to not buy gifts and I simply showed up one year and was the only one without gifts, that would make me sad because I would wonder what I had done to deserve being forgotten. The forgotten part would be much worse than not going home with a bunch of stuff. I really don't need a bunch of stuff every year.

But, I do enjoy giving presents. It's the one time of the year I really get to do that. I save for it and look forward to it.

Christmas makes me happy because I get to see family that is out of state that I do not get to see very often otherwise. Knowing I will see them is also part of what I look forward to. Business being closed for the holiday helps with this. Yes, it is drastically different from other holidays for this reason.

NO. I'd be sad. Who, in their own mind, doesn't enjoy receiving gifts. It's fun to give & it's fun to receive. Why would you think that The Price is Right Show has survived all these many years? To me, the holidays are for your family/friends to get together & have a big potluck; the gifts are just as good, home-made; or even better. It's the thoughtfulness & knowing that you're thought about; it's a time of goodwill & cheer; but some ruins this, on all the commercial products. It's a very lonesome time of the year for several, so if you can, envite some poor neighbor in for lunch & give them a small basket full of goodies to take home. This type of joy of giving is great for one's soul.

My family has the practice of buying gifts only for the children because it's financially a better option for us. It doesn't take any joy away from any of us mainly because of the joy the children have when opening their presents. As long as we get to spend the holidays together, everything is good.

Honestly, i love opening presents especially Christmas presents as they are always special and unique. But i wouldnt really mind if i dun receive any too. I just wish all my family members to be around me on Christmas. That would be the happiest thing i would ever want all throughout my life.

No. I think that the presents bring my family and friends closer together at Christmas time. I love that my whole family can sit around together near our Christmas tree, looking at the light, drinking hot cocoa around a warm, toasty fire.
I always give presents not only to my family but also my teachers, friends, and neighbors.

I mean, I guess I could live without getting gifts, but to me and my family, the gifts are a symbol. haha

I LOVE CHRISTMAS<3

The thing I like most about Christmas is the smile I see on my little cousins face on Christmas morning when they rush downstairs to see what Santa brought them.

I would still be happy, but not as happy as I would be if I did get presents.
