I need to buy my fiance's grandparents something for Christmas but I'm not sure what to get. He Nanny likes crafts and his Papal likes guns and stuff like that. I don't go to their house a lot so I'm not sure what they have and what they don't. I was thinking about making them a basket with homemade candies and a Christmas Candle. Do you think this would be good, or do you have any other ideas? Thanks!

Get his grandpa a subscription to Petersen's Outdoor Hunting magazine or Rifleman magazine or something, get his grandma a gift certificate to a nearby craft store (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, whatever is around). I wouldn't suggest the candies and candle because some older people can't have the sugar and are sensitive to scents. Also, his grandpa wouldn't get any use out of those things.

I have a lot of friends who are over 70. Whatever you do, don't get them anything that will clutter up their house. Even a basket should be recycle-able.

Find out if they can eat candy, and if they are allergic to candles. Many seniors develop diabetes or sensitivity to scents. This is really your opportunity to get to know them. Maybe they would like to be taken out to lunch.

Find out if they are the kind of people who would feel bad about receiving a gift when they can't reciprocate.

My grandparents LOVE gift certificates from the grocery store. I'm not lying either. In high school, I worked at a grocery store. People use to come in during the Holiday times to buy gift cards for their elderly family members.

Groceries are very burdensome on older people. Getting a week or two weeks worth of free food is great for them.

There is a Wonderful site called, http://www.blackriverbaskets.com
And they make Gift Baskets to Order....You could check out what they have or call them, I'm sure they'd have some great ideas, as well as being able to customise the basket, so you don't have to deal with it......I hope this helps...

the homemade candies are a great idea! it's so much more personal than something store-bought. if nanny likes crafts, you can bet she'll appreciate the time that went into the gift. you might check w/your fiance about allergies, likes/dislikes.

If they like to go out and eat, why not get them a gift certificate to a restaurant they like.

I think they would really appreciate the basket. You made it especially for them and they will think it nice of you to think of them.

your idea is terrific. You could add a framed picture of you and your fiance.
