how did the tradition of giving presents during christmas time start?

I consider myself a Christian, but not in the traditional sense. I consider Jesus the greatest teacher of all time, but I'm not sure if he's the son of God. To say that seems almost pagan. So I'm Christian but confused and that's why I'm trying to find out about more religions.

The question is, why did God choose Muhammad as (in your belief) his most important prophet? Was there every any explanation in your religious texts for this?

Just curious, and thanks.

again, with the shops all open again, transport running normally. Are you like me and cant buy presents for anyone any year as finances wont allow it,and are stuck at home no family or friends to see, nothing but repeats on Sky tv,and just basically bored stiff and fed up,as theres no where to go,nothing to do.I find it an extremely boring and depressing time of the year.Cant visit family at christmastime as they are all out visiting over christmas,so anyone else feel the same as me,and are just thankful to see the back of christmas and the new year holidays.jenni uk

My live-in boyfriend of almost 5 years decided to go out and blow 75% of his paycheck a few weeks ago on a new flatscreen TV. He had the audacity to say it was "for us". He assured me he would still have money to get me a gift this year. I spent a lot of time shopping for him and carefully picked out gifts that he would like including a new ring. I was so surprised to see two boxes under the tree for me this year. After he had opened his gifts I opened mine and to my horror I found a necklace/earring set made from metal that is painted to look like copper with fake stones (the kind of jewelry that turns your skin green when you wear it). I am sorry but I am a 30 y/o professional woman and I don't even think a teenager would wear this. I looked it up online..I found it, it was on sale for $8.50! Am I wrong for being angry about this or am I whining for no reason? I didn't expect him to spend a fortune, but I thought I was worth more than that! Should I say something to him?

I'm a pretty good artist. I draw a lot of portraits and have painted several murals. For Christmas, I drew one of my relatives a portrait of her two kids as a gift. In addition to the drawing I bought a gift. She thanked me for the store-bought gift but not the drawing that I put a lot of time and effort into. The rest of my family complimented the drawing and said that it looked just like the kids. However, I'm not offended if she didn't like it. In fact, I'd be more than willing to take it back and work on it more until she was happy with it. However, it really irks me that she couldn't even thank me for the effort. Am I in the wrong? What would you do?

I never talked to him, never met him, and he doesn't even know what I look like. My parents were talking about all this stuff since from when I was about 3. I even had gotten an engagement ring. Need advice what should I do?

My family is having their Christmas celebration next weekend and I’m looking for good ideas on how I can wrap my presents. For example: one year I wrapped the box in duct tape, and then wrapped it with reg. Christmas paper. Then, another time I filled the box with that expandable crack sealer that turns hard after it dries so they had to dig through all that crap to get to their gift! Any other ideas?

I know about the Red panties on New Year's Eve guarantees love in the next year (I swear by this one). Green candles, clothing, etc. is for health and Yellow is for money.

Also, just before 12:00 you should take a broom, go to your doorway and sweep outward (dust or whatever), this is supposed to get rid of all the bad stuff of the past year.

There's another one: Just after 12, take an empty suitcase and walk out the door, tae a few steps outside (some people say that you should walk all-around the block), this supposedly guarantees that you'll have lots of great travel opportunities.

My older brother (who is studying to become an Aalim) says that whatever we are not allowed to do in this world, we will be allowed to do in heaven and you can have whatever you want in heaven. He said, if you want a dog, you can have a dog. But, someone else told me that dogs are dirty, so we can't have them because Heaven is a clean place.

Does anyone know?

I'm not here to belittle anyone's religious beliefs. I'm just curious if there are any atheist families that celebrate Christmas for other reasons such as habit (maybe they grew up Christian but changed), secular appreciation for the spirit of giving, or not wanting their kids to feel left out.

I am not a religious person by any means. I do not believe in God or Jesus (or the Devil for that matter)... but I do still celebrate Christmas with my family every year. I do it because I enjoy being with my big family and I love seeing everyone and buying them gifts and spending many days together... Obviously I don't celebrate the holiday for what it supposedly means, but I'm curious as to how others who do not believe in God handle this?

A Christmas miracle seemed the only hope for a five-year-old Melbourne boy [Matthew Ristovski] who had been on life support for four weeks after his heart suddenly failed, however, to the amazement of his doctors, a rare medical phenomenon has saved his life, Matthew's heart recovered in the early hours of Christmas Day.
