I'm a pretty good artist. I draw a lot of portraits and have painted several murals. For Christmas, I drew one of my relatives a portrait of her two kids as a gift. In addition to the drawing I bought a gift. She thanked me for the store-bought gift but not the drawing that I put a lot of time and effort into. The rest of my family complimented the drawing and said that it looked just like the kids. However, I'm not offended if she didn't like it. In fact, I'd be more than willing to take it back and work on it more until she was happy with it. However, it really irks me that she couldn't even thank me for the effort. Am I in the wrong? What would you do?

What I would do is realize that giving the gift was more important to me than the reaction of the recipient. My motives, not others, are what matters to me.

Most people would be thrilled with a portrait of their children and that was an incredibly thoughtful thing for you to do. Some people are just not very polite. You should not be offended by her rudeness. Maybe, just ask her, "So, did you like the portrait I drew?"

It's only two days after Christmas - is it possible that she intends to write you a heartfelt thank-you note telling you how much she appreciates the gift? I hope so, because otherwise it is really rude not to acknowledge such a personal gift.

you gave it as a gesture of giving, just accept that some people do not show emotion or gratitude that meet our expectations....
