I was just reading an article about retailers feeling the pinch this holiday season. It said that rising fuel costs were causing shoppers to down grade to discount stores or buy less so retailers were decreasing projections of sales.

I know it's still early but has anybody decided to limit their budget this year because of rising costs? Have you decided to shop at discounters to get the most bang for your buck? How many people are on your list and what is your total budget?

I have 11 people on my list (all adults mostly family and two close friends). I'm almost done shopping. I shopped mostly online but I did shop in some brick and mortar stores but nothing that I'd consider to be a discounter like Wal-Mart or KMart. I used special sales or promotions when available. My budget is about $1000-$1200.

WHOO! I'd be scared to be a turkey this thanksgiving, or at least one around Whoopie Goldberg. yesterday, she was kind of scary the way she talked about thanksgiving. She said she was going to chase down her turkey herself and kill it herself and how that turkey don't want to see her. She said she was then going to make sure wants it was dead that it smelled good, with all KINDS of juices, seasoning, butter, biscuits surrounded around it and then she was going to finish it off herself. She's going to be fat on Friday. HOO BOY! Whoopie don't play with thanksgiving and turkey

...when that is the day most people travel, assuming they don't get Wednesday off. So Thursday is busy with travel and rush-rush-rush, meaning the actual family celebration would be on Friday, so they miss the football games.

And in Canada, Thanksgiving is on the 2nd Monday of October, which is the last day of our long weekend. So often up here the actual family dinner is on Sunday and Monday is spent returning from the visit.

I say US Thanksgiving should be on the Friday and Thursday can be free for travel and in Canada, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving should also be a holiday, to allow for families to celebrate on Monday and then travel back on Tuesday. Plus shorter weeks after a long weekend make the sting of going back to work a lot less.

What do you all think?

For some strange reason, when I walk into a store and here the man ringing his bell, and look at all the christmas decorations and gifts, it slightly puts a knot in my stomache, like Oh God, it's a new year, or is this what christmas is all about?

I hear people talk about their christmas list for gifts, and I wonder what is the true meaning of it anymore?

my friend and I just had a big fight... i am still furious. he claims that Home alone 2 is the best X-mas movie of all time which is ridiculous, because home alone 1 was way better and had more X-Mas spirit. proof:
- more x-mas spirit for the booby traps like stepping on ornaments
- kevin mccallister meets with santa to ask for his family back... but where is santa in home alone 2???
- etc

so what is the answer for the greatest x-mas movie of all time... home alone 1 or 2?????!

Is there any way to find out approximately how many Turkeys will "Get It" this year??

It is commonly credited to the Pilgrims at Plymouth, Massachusetts.

But it is also said to have originated earlier in Texas with Spanish missionaries. And it is also said to have been inspired by a Jewish harvest holiday.

Can we trace Thanksgiving all the way back to the ancients? By the way, I am not an ancient. I'm sort of old, but not an ancient yet.
