We celebrate it because it's the beginning of our country, and it shows the spirt that we once had to be free and indepdent. However, that spirt is gone, and we basically have King Bush in office.
I have no idea why you'd think it's a bad holiday..just sort of reminds people of what this country was once about, though that doesn't matter anymore to anybody it seems.

Americans like to celebrate actually; this being a very young country, celebrations and rememberances give us a sense of history.
Think of being in a relationship. The first couple of months, every little thing is an anniversary and celebration.
Of course, declaring one's own independence is on par with the day a couple gets married, or a teenager turns 21 and has their first legal drink, so its not quite as irrelevant as some of the other days. Not sure why you would consider it the worst day.

It's the best day of the year! Every state in the US of A puts on spectacular fireworks displays! And to think, it must all be in honor of my birthday, July 4!
