Did the Puritans, both in England and America, do the right thing by denouncing it as a pagan celebration?

Doesn't St. Paul specifically disapprove of observing the days of the old religion in Phrygia? [Galatians 4:10]. That indigenous religion was the worship of Attis and Cybele. The man-god Attis of Phrygia was born on December 25, was crucified and rose again after three days in a tomb at Easter. His devotees rolled away the stone and shouted "He is risen!" when they found the tomb empty. This was many centuries before the life of Jesus.

Why should Christians celebrate these re-named "Christmas" and Easter rituals? Do they think attaching the name "Christmas" instead of the Roman "Saturnalia" to the ancient holiday makes it Christian?

Fundies claim to go by the Bible. So where in the Bible does it recommend celebrating Christmas?

If you were raised to believe that he existed, how disappointed were you when you found out it was not true?

Has it affected you for life or will you (have you done) allow your own children to believe in Santa?

I wasn't raised with Santa Claus (Father Christmas) so I have no personal feelings of loss or disappointment. I'm curious because I want to raise my children to believe in Santa - but not if it hurts them when they find out it's not true.

Thanks.

Do you realise that NOBODY in ireland eats corned beef and cabbage?

People barely eat corned beef in sandwiches, nevermind anything else.

Bacon (ham) and cabbage is eaten here alright, sometimes. But anyway, I hav never heard of anyone eating a special meal on Paddy's day. Cos everyone is drinking it's usually chips.

Also, Guinness is not a beer, it is heresy to say it is, it's actually a stout.

Why drink green beer? That's kinda disgusting?!

March 17th is the day St. Patrick died. St. Patrick's day is a religious holiday celebrating Ireland's Patron saint, cos he converted Ireland to christianity.

And if you want to celebrate a traditional Paddy's day, go to catholic mass, said in irish, and then watch the parade, and then have a meal, and then go to the pub.

Some of the hokey stereotypical stuff is what we call plastic Irish. That is, irish - american inventions that are a little insulting to real irish people.

That help at all?!

I fixed the traditional corned beef and cabbage for my husband on our first St. Patrick's day together. The pressure cooker almost blew, and lets just say it wasn't his favorite meal.
