It started out as a skit on "Seinfeld", based on a writer's real life experience, on an episode called "The Strike" Frank Costanza (Jerry Stiller) had a tug a war with another shopper over a doll. He turned "Scrooge" and started a tradition using an aluminum pole (which is the "tree"), the "airing of grievances" where people write their anger on others and placed it on a cloth to be hung on the "tree". Foods (such as buffalo wings, chips) are shared along with cheesy music being played.

It's the "ironic, sarcastic" celebration of the holiday season...

Anyone celebrating?

I believe that it should be kept Merry Christmas, especially since Hannakuh ends today, there's no more reason to say happy hannakah. Christmas is still to come, so should all the stores now go back to merry christmas?

What do you think about this whole controversy that came up just maybe 3 years ago?

It was my understanding that Christ was born in the spring and not the winter. I have never read up on the history of establishing December 25th as the designated birthday of Jesus and am curious to know the details. Thanks!

My daughter is 8 and I'm wondering if she will figure it out that the presents from Santa are wrapped in the same paper that the presents from me are wrapped in! She's pretty smart, and we don't have a whole lot this year due to financial issues so I didn't buy a variety. Also, she's with me so I'm not sure how to sneak more paper by her. LOL.
I don't remember EVER even thinking about it when I was little though.
I thought I would tell her that Santa is the one that makes all the paper and sells it to the stores so he would naturally have the same paper as I do..... is that too obvious?

Thoughts?

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!

It seems like the spirit of Christmas is dying, I use to see decorations everywhere and now I don't plus we use to have a sign up that said Good Will towards Men but now even that is gone. Familes use to come together from all over and celebrate but now they don't why is this?

i am christian, so i may be way off. i've heard that the holiday of hannukah is more of a "minor holiday" to jewish people in comparison to rosh hashanah (sp) and yom kippur, but it gets more attention because of its proximity to christmas. is this true?

This is not a celebration to buy and consume... this is a time for peace, love and GIVE (not material stuff necessarily) It is celebration of a, why not, " A probable miracle of love that might had occurred 2007 years ago...(Even I am not sure of what the catholic church want us to believe) But it was created and called "Christmas". It sounds an hipocresy to called it just: Holidays.. if you do not like it.. why do you celebrate? It is now just an excuse for big shopping centers??
