It seems like the spirit of Christmas is dying, I use to see decorations everywhere and now I don't plus we use to have a sign up that said Good Will towards Men but now even that is gone. Familes use to come together from all over and celebrate but now they don't why is this?

I think the true meaning of christmas is what has died. We forget the reason we celebrate CHRISTmas. Jesus birth. I love the decorations and lights and so forth, but I think that if we got back to basics and take a little time to rememember Jesus Christ it would mean alot more to everyone. I wouldn't like it if it was my birthday and everyone got presents but me. So on Jesus birthday tell him Happy Birthday and spend a little time with him. May God Bless everyone Merry Christmas

I really think the spirit of Christmas is dying. You right no one does things any more, their to busy with *life* to take the time to enjoy each other and celebrate the REAL meaning CHRISTmas. The business worl look at Christmas as a way to sell so thats what they put into people heads now. To buy this and that to boost their profits, they dont care they want the money and what are people doing now...giving it to them. Its like now life is too busy to know the reason for any holiday. This coming from a 16 year old that notice things and do more observing that anything. So I agree with you that its dying but if parent will instill in their kids the meaning of Christmas it will gradually change back to the way its supose. It just needs time...time with family, time in church and a break from life. I really think the parent are'nt going to change ot back, but they can teach their kids the right way even if they didnt do it the right way.

I think the spirit of Christmas died a few years ago when angry shoppers were trampling each other to buy the Tickle Me Elmo. That definitely tipped the scales to the side of commercialization. Since then, Christmas has just been about the newest toy each year. There's no time to decorate anymore because everyone's camping out in front of Best Buy or Circuit City trying to get a PS3 or Wii.

It's horrible isn't it?! I encourage everyone I know to be in the spirit and put lights on their house, but I think everyone is too wrapped up in selfish acts of working long hours and shopping until the credit cards are maxxed out. Don't they know that kids love looking at Christmas lights? Our little town puts out a map the Sunday before Christmas every year noting the best displays in the whole city. It's nice, but it's still not like it was. If it makes you feel better I have 15 strings of lights put up just in my apartment windows!

It seems to me that since they changed the "Blue Laws" (allowing stores to be open on Sundays) that families spend less time together. Sunday used to be a big family dinner day with relatives. No more....
Now it is all about shopping, spending, mall going, and running up bills beyond our ability to pay.
Xmas hasn't diminished in that capacity but in the real meaning of Christmas it has diminished in my opinion. We used to really know one another better then and where the elders has something of value to teach.
Enjoy your holiday.

I think if we tend to buy less, spend time with the family more during the season, sing carols, pray, eat dinner together, and go to Holy Mass (church) and focus on the Nativity of Christ we will not lose perspective on Jesus.

I can not speak for everyone, but in my case:
Send the mother-in-law to the nut house, have hubbys ex wife arrested for her numerous crimes, and somehow make step kids realize that it's not about how much $ is spent on them - but that they are loved.
wa-la.....full blast Christmas spirit!!

the reason why christmas is dying is because of the grinch. he sits there on his mountain and terrorizes the towns. the way to overcome this is to think aboiut others and invite the grinch to things and so yeah thats it. oh and its not about presents its about sharing love with others
