The games in order of release are:
Red and Blue
Yellow
Silver and Gold
Crystal
Ruby and Sapphire
Emerald
FireRed and LeafGreen
Diamond and Pearl (currently only in Japan).
Nintendo releases many of the games in pairs and at the same time. For example in Red and Blue, there were 150 pokemon in the pokedex (not counting Mew), however, each version only had certain ones, therefore to complete the pokedex, you had to trade with someone with the other version.

pokemon yellow, along with blue and red, then gold, silver and crystal. After the gameboy ones you had sapphire, ruby for GBA and mystery dungeons for the DS.
