Two days before Christmas, my dad made Tom and Jerry's and all our friends and neighbors stopped by for a drink, and to see our tree. Dad always went up north to cut it down after Thanksgiving.Christmas eve we'd write our Christmas list to Santa and pic out one of my dad socks(the bigger the better) to be our stocking..then hang them by the fireplace with note inside. We had 6 girls and one brother..so we all go to the kitchen and help mom make hot chocolate for Santa, the youngest put the marshmallow on top. 5 girls each picked out their favorite Christmas cookie to put on a plate with the hot chocolate, and the other sister got the carrot and lettuce for a plate for the reigndeer. We put the goodies on a tray by the fireplace for Santa. We already had bathed and put on our new matching PJ's(very important!) tee hee! and then laid down with our pillows on the carpet in front of the fireplace and mom read The Bible Christmas story followed by The Night Before Christmas story.

is thanksgiving really anything more than a commerical holiday?..family getting together aside does it hold any of its
original meaning when the modern american indian has less to be thankful for than the average american?
I have to wonder what typical american indian would be thinking knowing the average american is sitting down stuffing their face while they as a virtually invisible minority who live in poverty
to them it must feel like a backhanded insult

im not saying its a bad thing because of course family is important I am only suggesting that perhaps the meaning could be adjusted to suit to both american indians and americans

what do you think?

Most of the family is working today and we didn't have enough money to get a turkey. I have been eating pizza all day and I'm bored out of my mind. Who else thinks Thanksgiving is boring?

Their ad says there's a minimum of 18 per store of what I want to buy, so I need to be one of the first 18 people there. They open at 5am and they are going to hand out tickets at 4am. I've never done black Friday shopping before, so what time should I be there to get in line to get one?

It's not really a Thanksgiving thing, but this is the closest category I could find.

Is it similar to Christmas, is it a big deal, is it good?

I've just looked it up on wikipedia, apparently it is a holiday in America, on the 4th thursday in november, where everybody gets the day off and eats turkey.

The UK equivalant is harvest Festival, which nobody cares about and takes place on a Sunday so we don't get a day off.

Do you think we should get a day off in the UK and feast on turkey?
