I'm a Strong christian. Strong Christians, muslims, jews, give thanks to God on Thanskiving day, and it's not about eating turkey and thanking a person who helped you or something. I have been in a serious debate with my somebody, over the mean of thinksgiving. He says it's not religious. I need more back up prove. Somebody give me some clue!!!

We today tend to ignore the religious beginnings of Thanksgiving. The Pilgrims were a religious sect, who came to America to escape religious persecution. They had some trouble with providing food for themselves. The Indians helped them. The Pilgrims invited the native Americans to a meal to celebrate the good harvest and to thank the Indians for their help with the crops. I'm sure the Pilgrims prayed over the meal.
The native Amereicans had a religion, too. It is their custom to thank their Gods for the food
Consider the phrases "to give thanks" and "thanksgiving". If we are not thanking God, who are we thanking?
We do indeed take the opportunity to mention all of the blessings [religious word!] that we have been given[by whom?] a job that gave us the money to buy the meal, the people who cooked it, good health, etc.
This is America, we have the freedom here to celebrate the holiday any way we choose, with religion, or without, our choice.
But you are right, if we choose to see, the holiday is filled with religion.
Happy thansgiving everyone!

Well, Thanksgiving originally started as a cross-cultural celebration of the relationship between Pilgrims and Indians in what later became the United States. So the origin of the holiday isn't really religious. Nevertheless, many religious people like the take the opportunity to thank God for their blessings on this holiday. If I had to choose, I think I'd agree with your friend, although I think it's completely appropriate to thank God all the time, and hopefully not just one day a year!

You're wrong. Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday. Only in America do we celebrate our Thanksgiving on the 2nd to last Thursday of November. It is to remember and give thanks to the Native Americans who helped the pilgrims when they first landed at Plymouth Rock. Without them they pilgrims would have not survived. The natives taught them how to plant crops in the soil here because it was so different from the soil in England and taught them what plants are okay to eat. Some people do thank God for everything and make it religous but the original idea behind Thanksgiving had nothing to do with any religion.

Yeah, that was what the original natives did 'help the Pilgrams to survive'. The thanks they received was 'Christianity being forced on them, deseases, and finally their land stolen and most of them slaughtered unmercifully !!!!! So much for Thanksgiving!!!

it has nothing to do with religion at all. the first thanksgiving was celebrated by the native americans and the pilgrims. the pilgrims were thanksful because the natives helped them survive by teaching them how to grow food and raise animals.
basically, thanksgiving is about being grateful for what you have.
