After all these people at one time were teenagers too and have a lot of experience with life's tribulations, and should be respected to some degree for their knowledge.

I purchased one on QVC. Guess I had a retro moment. Do you think wearing such a jacket is too young for a senior?

There have been a lot of "remember when?" etc, questions lately, but I don't recall anyone mentioning incinerators. The house I grew up in had an incinerator in the back yare. It was made of bricks and had a metal door to empty in the trash and a chimney. A "garbage man" picked up the garbage once a week and an "ash man" picked up the ashes from the incinerator every so often. Ashes were kept in an ash can. Then at one point incinerators were banned in Los Angeles -mid-50s I think, and we had another collector pick up what we used to burn.

It appears to me that the whole country is living off of credit cards, borrowed money, plus interest. Personally, I never use one, except to spread mastic on the back of tile to make a mural.
I honestly don't understand how alot of the younger generation survive these days. If they are being paid minimum wage, how on earth do they survive?
My rule of thumb is if you don't have the cash, then you don't need it.
People that are shopaholics, whats up with all the materialist values? Don't they realize that they will never get out of debt?

TO A PHENOMENAL WOMAN

When I was in my younger days,

I weighed a few pounds less,

I needn't hold my tummy in

to wear a belted dress.

But now that I am older,

I've set my body free;

There's comfort of elastic

Where once my waist would be.

Inventor of those high-heeled shoes

My feet have not forgiven;

I have to wear a nine now,

But used to wear a seven.

And how about those blasted tights --

They're sized by weight, you see,

So how come when I put them on

The crotch is at my knee?

I need to wear these glasses

As the print's been getting smaller;

And it wasn't very long ago

I know that I was taller.

Though my hair has turned to grey

and my skin no longer fits,

On the inside, I'm the same old me,

the outside's changed a bit.

But, on a positive note...

I've learned that no matter what happens,

or how bad it seems today,

life does go on, and it will be ok

1. If they are in the middle of something, they won't acknowledge you but continue to do what they are doing? Do you feel that you are interrupting them?

2. That some people tend to look down when speaking and not look directly at you?

3. The grocery clerk, while doing a transaction, looks all around (with their mouth open for some reason), and is not attentive to you?

Have you experienced any of this?

My sister told me that she has a regular band playing constantly in her ear. I do recall, before I lost some hearing in my left ear, the sound of Big Ben bonging in my ear day and night, and then it stopped on its on. Now I hear in my left ear the sound of a xylophone being played.

Dear God,
Help me to accept what you will do. Grandma will always be Grandma whether she is here on earth with her family or at peace with you. It is only my selfish humaness that fights your will.

In a coma she is neither here not there. Yet she is. Grandma will live forever in our hearts. I will keep her in a heavenly place where she belongs. I will always remember her with deep love, humor and wisdom.

Please help me keep things in proper perspective so I do not place myself into a man made hell. Her spirit, my spirit and yours are one, and that's all that matters. I will allow your energy to flow through me to give me strength and love.

Thank you and Amen

I used to love hearing my brother recite "The Cremation of Sam McGhee," but my all-time favorite is "Always Saying No," by Edgar Guest. If you're not familiar, allow me to recite as much as I can remember of it:

Folks are queer as they can be / always saying Don't! to me.
Don't do this and don't do that, / don't annoy or tease the cat.
Don't throw stones or climb the tree. / Don't do anything at all. Gee.
Seems like when I want to play, / Don't! is all that they can say.

High school was the worst time of my life, and I didn't graduate, so I don't get invitations to reunions. Although I'm now living in my hometown again, I wouldn't know one of my classmates if I were to run into him or her on the street.

My sister goes to reunions and says occasionally someone will ask about me, but basically it's a closed chapter. There is only one person I miss, and we stayed close until I moved away.

It hasn't made the slightest difference!

This is in deference to Goldwing, who wore an orthopedic girdle that happened to have lace inserts. He said they were miserable.

I bought a nightgown with lace straps, and I wore it once, washed it, put it on and took it right back off. I wound up giving it to my granddaughter. That scratchy lace might just as well have been wool.

Not just philosophical platitudes, things you really believe in. I'm interested in your's.
Here's mine to my daughters.

1. Never turn down the chance to learn something new.

2. Always do the right thing, for no other reason than it's the right thing to do.

3. Sometimes, doing wrong is the right thing to do. Accept the consequences with dignity.

4. Always live below your means.

5. Lieing, cheating and stealing are unacceptable.

My fear has been that I handicapped these girls in living in our modern society.
