Dear God,
Help me to accept what you will do. Grandma will always be Grandma whether she is here on earth with her family or at peace with you. It is only my selfish humaness that fights your will.
In a coma she is neither here not there. Yet she is. Grandma will live forever in our hearts. I will keep her in a heavenly place where she belongs. I will always remember her with deep love, humor and wisdom.
Please help me keep things in proper perspective so I do not place myself into a man made hell. Her spirit, my spirit and yours are one, and that's all that matters. I will allow your energy to flow through me to give me strength and love.
Thank you and Amen

Grandma passed away when she was 88 years old. I did the math and can't believe she has been gone so long. Today is her birthday, she would be 114!

You obviously loved your grandma a lot. I was closer to one grandma than the other, but wasn't really close to either. The one I saw once a year lived only 8 hours away by car. The other lived a two-day car drive away and we saw her only about every five years. (Keep in mind that these long car trips were made in the '40s, when there were no interstates and if your car could go 55, you felt you were flying.)
I'm sorry for your loss, but as your prayer said, she's in a better place, surrounded by love, and is free of pain.

Beautiful indeed
Especially the: "Her spirit, my spirit and yours are one, and that's all that matters."
I just love that!
I am glad to see that you too had a grandmother that was special to you.
At the end of her life I lived thousands of miles away from my grandmother and yet we both dreamed of each other. I thought that was pretty special.
Then came the day that my mom called me and told me that my grandmother was not going to last much longer and I should visit her then if I wanted to see her again since I hadnt been there for more than six months.
She was fully encaptured by Alzheimers and yet I was lucky in that she focused during my visit an into awakened state and knew me and we talked for about 20 minutes with her telling me how miserable it is to get old and not remember anything.
At first she was telling me that she was sure I was a fine young man cause these people here let me come into her house. Then I had gotten her to remember me by reminding her that she had two children and that I was her daughter's oldest son. I remember well how she brightened and became awake and grabbed and held my hand to her chest and cried. My mom also stood with us also crying but my gram was focused on me and did not look at her. Then my gram asked me to kiss her once again while she was remembering me. While we were embracing more relatives came in from next door and as my grandmother saw them she slipped back into her forgetfulness and moments later didnt know who I was. My mom was telling the other relatives about how she was completely lucid for a while and all the excitement confused her even more and my mom and I had to take her for a walk in her garden to comfort her but she was just lost even in her garden that was so precious to her.
She died two weeks later. When I told my boss that I would not go to the funeral because I had just visited all the relatives and already said my goodbyes to my grandmother, he insisted and called the airlines himself and bought me a ticket himself and said he was doing it for his own grandmother's memory. In the end I was glad I was with my brother and all my male cousins on her side to be pallbearer.
Still every once in a while I dream of her.
Grandmother's can be very special.
I know I am grateful that I knew mine.

Thank you. I just returned from a memorial service for an old and dear friend. I feel the same way about Jim. That is sort of what I told his grand daughter (a friend of MINE since she was 5). When she was 5, her grand dad and I were standing in the hallway at church and she came up. Grand dad asked, "Do you know this guy's name?" Maddy said, "Yes, it's MR. ED!" "Do you know his LAST name?" Maddy thought a bit then said,"No, I don't." Jim said, "It's the same as mine. We're cousins!" Maddy looked up an me and asked, "Is grandpa Jim REALLY your cousin?" Since that day, Jim and I were CUZN JIM and CUZN ED to each other. Some folks really thought we were cousins...we were built a like, and looked similar. He was adopted so he never knew anything about his biological family, other than his name. In fact, his wife said that we could pass for each other in the dark (??). Picture 2 Wilford Brimleys...he he.
